If they do this, it would only be fair to pro-rate the amount towards the wall. A 3-week CR is about 5-8% of the remaining weeks in the fiscal year. So, the amount authorized should only be about 5-8% of the demanded $5.7B.

The air traffic controllers union stated that air traffic controllers are making mistakes due to stress. They said that yesterday. Before they predicted it. Now they said they are screwing up on the job because of strain.

The stress and toll this is taking on people is terrible. Additionally, the insensitive “let them eat cake!” comments from the Administration and GOP aren’t helping. I hope the GOP face a MASSIVE backlash.

+ 1. It’s shameful, and all on the Republicans.

Therefore, people need to do this: Call all the Republican Senators and let them know they will be kicked out if they don’t fix this.

This 1000%. Calls work.

Until then, yes, he's the one holding the blame.

To be fair, isn't this what he did yesterday for the "second" vote?

He should do it again, but without a party throttle. And ideally, the CR would be to September with the exception of Homeland Security, which they can negotiate. That should be to March when the debt ceiling will need to be extended (again) so they can make a full deal that includes both. And that should be tenable - $5B for "border security" which can include repairing the physical border in areas that are determined need to be repaired, and some sort of short term amnesty for Dreamers.

Frustrated GOP senators read Vice President Pence the riot act at a closed-door meeting Thursday, telling him the partial government shutdown needs to end soon, according to lawmakers in the room.

Republican senators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), warned the vice president that prolonging the shutdown is not a smart political strategy, in hopes of sending a clear message to President Trump that he needs to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.

Lawmakers vented their irritation to Pence shortly before six GOP senators defected to vote for a Democratic-backed bill that would open the government without funding Trump’s proposed border wall.

One GOP senator said lawmakers told Pence “the shutdown needs to come to an end, this is not a strategy that works [and] we never should have had a shutdown in the first place.”

Oh my. Is that a GOP backbone I see? Very rare sighting these days!

Not a backbone. More like backbiting and whines.

And a turtle drunk in power who likes seeing federal workers suffer!!

True. I guess none of these were public statements. Those would be backbone material.

Anonymous wrote: ‘This is your fault’: GOP senators clash over shutdown inside private luncheon

Republican senators clashed with one another and confronted Vice President Pence inside a private luncheon on Thursday, as anger hit a boiling point over the longest government shutdown in history.

“This is your fault,” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) at one point, according to two Republicans who attended the lunch and witnessed the exchange.

“Are you suggesting I’m enjoying this?” McConnell snapped back, according to the people who attended the lunch.

Also during the lunch, McConnell made clear to Pence and others in the room that the shutdown was not his idea and was not working. According to Republicans familiar with his comments, he quoted a favorite saying that he often uses to express his displeasure with government shutdowns: “There is no education in the second kick of a mule.”

McConnell started using that saying after the 2013 shutdown, which lasted 16 days and ended after the public largely blamed Republicans.

Awesome. I encourage Trump to keep on going another week or two so that GOP senator throw the turtle out and shutdown the wall and open the government.

I love that Republican Senators ran and leaked this to the Post.
