My kid played your son's team in that tourney, they didn't look that bad. It's a pretty new team, right? The offense wasn't clicking but that's pretty common in new teams--it takes time. Did most of the players come from the old Cavs team?

It's only 7th grade--there's no harm in staying there for a year and seeing how the trend looks. Generally player development (in my experience with two kids) depends on work put in outside of club practices and games, if you're son is motivated and works hard he can move on to a better team this summer or next.

Totally understand the frustration, just saying not to bail out too quickly, if that's what you're thinking.


I appreciate the response. The team was just better last year and my son is realizing that only a few kids play lacrosse as their main sport on the team. So that is frustrating to him since he loves lacrosse so much. He loves his coaches and that is always a plus.

For now. But in middle school and HS, many of those MadLax 2029s will move to VLC, NextLevel, and DCE, as happened in the 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 classes.

Strange post - is this an attack on the coach or other players on the team?

2028 VLC dad here. Our team DID look lost this last tournament and am hoping they can turn around this next tournament…. Or you may see some kids looking for new teams in the spring.

The Cavs existed for one main reason. It allowed Moms to say to their friends that their son played "club" lacrosse. When in reality their team was essentially a B team. For example the VLC 29 team is their best youth team and is pretty good but it's nowhere near the level of Madlax Cap 29.

If VLC does not have an 8th grade team my guess is that 8th grade parents are not reading this so no the VLC parents would not care.

Actually you are wrong. They bought them because cavalier has a Trey strong early youth program and VLC had none.


If Cavs program was so great, then why did if fold? Why was it rapidly losing players? Why did it never play in high-level tourneys? VLC model was for high school players. Maybe they are trying to develop a more direct pipeline into its program via the Cavs thing. It is probably a way to also create more cash flow; I concede that, but I certainly don't begrudge them for it. Other teams are doing it, and other teams place players from other parts of the country on their high-level tourney rosters. VLC doesn't. Given them credit for sticking local and developing their players rather than just cherry-picking to look good at a tourney.
