The vagueness of the laws and the uncertainty they create are a feature, not a bug. This is what the forced-birthers wanted so that doctors would stop all abortion care.

Extremists like Alexandra DeSanctis Marr have moved the goalposts so many times it's mindboggling.

She posted this in December



Yet now she wants to claim that these laws only outlaw "elective abortions" but not medically necessary ones.

But also, think about this: If you're this determined to only believe what you want to believe and disregard ALL evidence to the contrary (or move goalposts as a method of explaining away any research that contradicts your belief), that is the hallmark of a conspiracy theorist.

You are a conspiracy theorist. Ask yourself, what would it take for me to believe anything different than what I believe? If you can't come up with anything you've revealed your own bias to yourself.

You should listen to Ezra Kleins podcast (todays episode). I’m a lefty liberal but blue state policies, especially on housing, means that moving for the chance of pregnancy complications is wildly unrealistic.


I don’t believe this will happen overnight, but over time I’m sure we will see a steady migration. People will refuse job offers in red states, or just not apply at all. Fewer blue state kids will go to red state colleges. It will add up. And it will only move in one direction too. Republicans in blue states will not move to red states because abortion is illegal there. But liberals and moderates in red states *will* move to blue states to gain more rights and options for current and planned pregnancies. Stopping someone you don’t know from having an abortion doesn’t make your life any better, but giving yourself more options in your own pregnancy definitely does. I think this is absolutely inevitable, given the current trajectory.

Moving in general is a difficult endeavor and the less means someone has the more difficult it is. Especially to move far away where no family and friends are.

Agree. This will just serve to suppress the birth rate and some pregnancies will just be avoided entirely due to the heightened risks of pregancy and deliver in these states.

DP - there are many other research articles that can be pulled if you bother looking, including data on the impact of abortion laws in other countries.

However, if your default is to just believe the other random people posting in your community forums, that says everything about how you come to conclusions - i.e. you just want to believe what you want to believe and no amount of data nor evidence matters.
