It’s a shame it’s leadership and founders largely had other motives. Namely to promote Jen’s brand and image.
Does she or Brandon even go there anymore? Does anyone?
Not really. After the huge "gay marriage is holy" bombshell that Jen dropped in a podcast interview without any warning to ANYone, about 2/3 of the people left the church with broken hearts. Including almost all if not all the elders, because Jen and Brandon and Tray just forgot to inform anyone that ANC was suddenly affirming gay marriage, because they disagreed theologically, and with the way that it was all handled.
There are only 2 families from that day who were still there recently. They may have left by now too.
Keep in mind the Sheltons never really actually went to church so they don't count.
A few of the original people had left prior for various reasons, ranging from Jen getting too political (this is Austin, she was loudly bashing the governor when one of Abbot's top employees was a major donor, was one of the original backbone families very very involved at ANC! So uncool) to not being onboard with their so-called humble pastor being on a reality show, etc. The members were the lifeblood of ANC. The "staff" did virtually nothing so once the main members left, it was all downhill from there.
Another thing that happened is that a very beloved elder was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
He was in the hospital.
Not one pastor came to see him.
Or even called.
There was also an exodus once they brought in Jason Morriss. He is the "pastor" now. He is the smarmiest guy you'll ever meet who pissed off a lot of people just by being himself. Jason just appeared one day from of all places, Lakewood, Joel Osteen's church. I kid you not. And was happy to say how much he loved and respected Joel. No explanation, no introduction, just here's Jason.
I'll let someone else tell what they think about Jason. He's not a Christian tho. He clearly admits to not even really believing in God. And he is the one who they chose to carry on.
Wow- lots of good stuff here. I went there and think I know the person with the tumor - initials RM? Don’t want to say anyone’s name. The other Abbott donor, I’m not sure. I do know, or at least surmise, that there were a couple of families of means who went there. Most were like me, firmly in lower middle class. South Austin Trash, if you will. Not too familiar with Jason- we left before his arrival but he does seem smarmy. His trademark hat and priest collar is a total turn off. What a weirdo. Also, a lot of the folks who came over with Generations Church didn’t stay long. After it was clear that John Church didn’t fit thier mold, that deal was done.
