If this happens the whole BY v SY debate goes out the window because US Soccer controls the college game. They'll make it work whichever way aligns with how they think players should be grouped.

Where’s the pot of gold for US soccer in all this? Where do they get the revenue and risk model for subsizing year round travel and training for college kids. year round playing students still need time to take classes and other school commitments. Doesn’t seem like a win on either side really.
This is my question as well. At some point there will have to be significant subsidies to stand a chance. There are 300+ D1 womens soccer programs. Maybe a top 20-30 league would be interesting but nobody wants to see Missouri State Vs Arkansas Pine Bluff.
And where does Title 9 fall in all of this? Does it go away if it is no longer housed within the university? I could see legal dynamics tying something like this up for years. Much like the football lawsuit.

They are literally no better than your average classic coach, except they have power and authority of the 2nd best boys league and best girls league in the country. Agree those two are ding dongs but some of the MLSN changes, like taking almost any club that wants to join tier 2 and calling them academy seems pretty desperate too . Both are scrambling for prominence or grasping to maintain some existence in the alphabet soup leagues. Hard to imagine MLSN completely takes over for a sustained period of time. Lots of parents of top kids do not like their model and a surprisingly high number of talented kids especially at 13/14/15 have zero interest in playing professional. That MLS pipeline may be attractive to some but a lot of noise to others.
Both are…either/or? This doesn’t make sense.
ECNL is scrambling to not lose their boys league entirely. And MLSN is expanding into tier 2 to basically take ECNLs lunch.
Is it a strategic mistake for MLSN to grow big and fast and focus on so many different player journey outcomes? 🤷♂️
Is it a strategic mistake for ECNL to think they can keep the same singular player journey outcome focus for boys that they mediocre at currently but only change and age cut-off in order to shift the tide? 🤷♂️
Between the two options, I think MLSN seems like it’s more likely to be successful.
Successful for how long and by what measure?. Any one of these leagues and yes even your precious MLSN could fold tomorrow financially. That is why I say what I said, as two things can be true at the same time. Having more clubs wear your badge isn’t necessarily winning and dominating. Business wise these attempts are also desperation as financially they need to do something big or fold up. After Messi retires, most will go back to stop paying any attention to MLS.
You are so out of touch with what is happening in the US with regard to soccer. And what is happening globally overall.
You’re stuck in the 90’s with your frame of reference.

What happens with college probably wont affect any of the youth leagues that want to change to SY. They've made a choice and will stick with it.
MLSN + GA haven't announced anything.
If NCAA gives college soccer to US Soccer it will probably be aligned to BY because this is how USM/WNTs + pro clubs are setup. But even this wont change when players graduate HS so SY would still work. However if US Soccer got control of college soccer recruitment would be completely different. ECNL would quickly be iced out.
So, they'll only enter in one age group. How does this matter?

Problem is there are only so many national team slots and soccer is just not popular enough, hence non-revenue generating.

Soccer is just not popular enough in this country to monetize something like this. US soccer going to subsidize college soccer for 30 NT spots when they don’t pay a dime for the p2p system we have now. Where’s the upside for them?

Substituting the ever-so-prominent “MLS Academy” name, that so many Dads on here drool over, and imparting it to their second tier league, is weird yes. In fact it is blatantly deceitful because it used to be the pinnacle of what parents could tell others and now it means the opposite. It also forces those same dips*!t parents to say homegrown which is in and of itself self a weird name .
It's going to be really interesting if MLSN/GA stays BY.
I think this is playing a big role in MLSN/GAs decision.

Sounds like NCAA wants to wash its hands of non revenue sports and US Soccer wants control over college soccer. If this happens the whole BY v SY debate goes out the window because US Soccer controls the college game. They'll make it work whichever way aligns with how they think players should be grouped.
Hmmm ... If this moves quickly, maybe we don't switch to SY after all?
