100%. There are the few exceptions who choose to stay and play for their public schools. These are generational talents though with the size, speed, power, and skill that attract the top D1 programs. VA publics have seen a few of these players commit to top 25 programs in recent years - JMU, USF, Denver, Army, Navy, and I’m sure a few more, but this is a rarity.

Hats off to any player who can compete at this level. Also, props to those who can leverage lacrosse to get school paid for.

What is surprising to see is how many players opt to go to a schools they never talked about during the recruiting process just to play lacrosse. Lacrosse is not the end goal. It’s a mechanism to help athletes go to schools they want to attend and earn a degree. Last I checked WLL players get paid less than minimum wage employees.

Agree. Women’s D1 lacrosse may be the college sport with the biggest disparity from top to bottom. With over 130 teams there are not enough skilled players to fill rosters. Add to this a high percentage of players don’t play all four years which widens the gap between the top and bottom teams. D1 really needs to create its own tiers - top 20, top 21-40 and all others. My daughter’s top 20 program played all freshman in a scrimmage against a team that falls in the last category - final score 24-3. Wasn’t competitive and wasn’t enjoyable to watch.

Sad to see how far the 6A talent has fallen off in the public leagues this year. The State Championship teams of the past 6-7 years (Yorktown, Oakton, and Langley) would have crushed these teams. Privates continue to steal the talent and offer better opportunities for elite players post HS.
