No, he said he didn't want the Trump-Russia relationship to be boxed in by an escalating set of sanctions. Begs the question, what was planned for Trump-Russia? What I do know, Russia wanted the US out of Syria, and that has happened. What did the US get in exchange? Nothing.

The central discussion point was Middle East policy.

How absurd is this?
Or, maybe, just maybe, they wanted a way to monitor the Trump administration.....
Flynn sure sounds dumb enough to be a Russian fanboy. Those transcripts are embarrassing he's so obsequious to Kishlyak. You want that complete suck up as your National Security Advisor?
You are an idiot. And, that is being kind. It's called diplomacy. And, encouraging Russia not to escalate. I guess you think that is a bad thing.
Russia had just attacked our country and Flynn is literally BEGGING Russia to not retaliate for the sanctions. It's pitiful.
No, that's not what he said. He said he understood that they had to retaliate, but he asked them not to escalate so that it wouldn't get into a back and forth.

No, he said that he understood that Russia would have to take an action in response to the expulsions. He then asked for it to only be reciprocal. Nothing to do with the sanctions.

Exactly. That is hardly a "discussion" about sanctions.
Flynn brought up Russia's response to US actions regarding cyber when he asked for Russia's response to be reciprocal [rather than escalatory].
Flynn brought it up, not Kislyak.
It was not a "discussion" about the sanctions. It was about the expulsions, which were not part of the sanctions.
In that discussion, the word "sanctions" isn't used. Flynn talks about actions taken about cyber.
And in the very same sentence, he refers to the expulsions. Not sanctions.
