Why do Trump supporters think this is ok?
So, he should have encouraged them to retaliate? Do you hear yourself?
He didn't have to talk to Kislyak at all. He could have waited until after the inauguration.
He knew that. That's why he lied.
Oh, please. This s pretty standard. You think Obama's people didn't talk to foreign diplomats during the transition?????
It's fine that the President-Elect's team reached out to other nations. But anything other that "Hi, How are you?" is unethical. It isn't fine that Flynn advised Russian diplomats how to respond to Obama's sanctions.
Encouraging them not to escalate? Are you f'ing kidding me?
Flynn had no business to encourage or discourage Russia either way. But IF I adopt your unethical position and assume that this conversation was appropriate, then the real question is why didn't Flynn encourage them not to muck with our elections??????? That would de-escalate tensions with Russia much, much better than anything Flynn suggested. Do you disagree?
Maybe because there is STILL no hard evidence that they did anything other than buy FB ads. Even the guy in charge of the DNC server from Crowdstrike, Shawn Henry, testified that he was not certain Russia downloaded emails. Interesting what is revealed in sworn testimony.
The Senate found that Russia or interfered in the election, attacked our country.

How absurd is this?
Or, maybe, just maybe, they wanted a way to monitor the Trump administration.....
Flynn sure sounds dumb enough to be a Russian fanboy. Those transcripts are embarrassing he's so obsequious to Kishlyak. You want that complete suck up as your National Security Advisor?
You are an idiot. And, that is being kind. It's called diplomacy. And, encouraging Russia not to escalate. I guess you think that is a bad thing.
Russia had just attacked our country and Flynn is literally BEGGING Russia to not retaliate for the sanctions. It's pitiful.
No, that's not what he said. He said he understood that they had to retaliate, but he asked them not to escalate so that it wouldn't get into a back and forth.
There was a bit more to it than that. So is it that you don’t understand that there was more to what he was implying or do you just not want to admit that Trump was coordinating with Russia?

Other incoming advisors have talked with foreign diplomats during the transition period. Like it or not, the Russian was the ambassador to the United States.
He did not discuss sanctions. He discussed the expulsions. The LATimes did not lump them together but referred to them as expulsions and sanctions. They are not the same thing. There were financial sanctions which were likely much more troubling to the Russians. And, even then, "discuss" is a little strong when you consider that he just asked that they not get into a "tit for tat."
I just reread the summaries and transcripts all the way through and it seems clear to me that Flynn was making up US policy on his own, right then and there. Not on Trump's behalf.
Just himself.
That's why he lied to everyone, because he seriously overstepped.
Except 1) he referred to the "boss" (trump) and 2) he was working on behalf of Trump, Turkey, Israel and Cambridge Analytica from 2015, so it was all coordinated.

Expulsions were in response to "harrassment" of US personnel.
Sanctions were in response to cyber issues--election meddling, I guess.
Ironic, that we now know there is no proof that it was the Russians who hacked DNC.

Exactly. That is hardly a "discussion" about sanctions.
Flynn brought up Russia's response to US actions regarding cyber when he asked for Russia's response to be reciprocal [rather than escalatory].
Flynn brought it up, not Kislyak.
It was not a "discussion" about the sanctions. It was about the expulsions, which were not part of the sanctions.
