Maybe... I have the degrees, make good money, but I'm a terrible homemaker. So, we hire a nanny, maids, gardners, caterer (when needed), etc. I take care of my husband's social emotional needs and him mine. We have spoken numerous about the satisfaction of good balance sheets. It matters! I do agree that it's a SES thing. We raise our daughters with eyes wide open.

Confident men want their equal. Insecure men want a sexist relationship with unequal power dynamics, because it makes them feel better about themselves. We can all see this from miles away.
I think you should let men say what they want, instead of us theorizing.
From my observations, which can be wrong, affluent men care more about class parity than financial parity. They want you to be their equal in education and quality of thinking. You don't have to make money but you have to be from the same SES. That's why an investment banker/lawyer would consider a marriage to a journalist or university professor (high education, low pay) a union of equals, but would probably pause before considering marriage to say, someone who owns a gas station or a successful blue-collar service business (high pay, low prestige).
