Davidson is more difficult to get into than W&M. 18% acceptance rate this year.

But Davidson's average GPA and SAT are slightly lower than W&M (along with fewer applicants submitting SAT scores). So if you had stats for W&M you'd have an easier time getting into Davidson, even given their low acceptance rate. That said, I would never consider it a safety. Just another reasonable target.

That’s not how it works. Davidson is using holistic admissions to shape a very small class. It goes way beyond stats.

True, but so does W&M. FWIW, my DD got into Davidson but not W&M OOS. Her stats were slightly above the mean for W&M which was further above for Davidson. Solid ECs but no particular hook. That's why I said it would be another reasonable target, not a safety.

It's not even that hard of a school to begin with. Oxford college anyone?

I agree with the previous poster -- overall, Davidson is a tougher admit than W&M especially if you are a Virginia resident. Also factor in that Davidson has D1 athletics and is one of the smallest D1 schools in the country (<2000 students) so that might skew the average HS GPA and scores lower. If your kid is not a recruited athlete, Davidson can be a tough admit regardless of GPA and SAT scores. Davidson went test optional for a 3 year trial starting last year.

I don't disagree with the thrust of this post, but note that William and Mary is also has D1 sports.

Davidson is NOT a safety for someone applying to and hoping to get into W&M (especially from VA)
