We’d rather prepare. My husband, a huge leftist, was off on a bike ride blissfully unaware. I filled up his truck for him, as well as mine last night. I also told my adult kids to do same and all three heeded my advice. Husband has learned not to laugh after I bought extra toilet paper and got some masks before the Covid crisis really hit, due to the buzz. He went through almost all the toilet paper despite me asking him to leave that case in reserve because he thought I was ‘crazy’. Then the crisis hit and I realized what happened (he lied about not using it). He had to get up at 5 AM and get online at a store and STILL got the last 12 pack. Came home shell-shocked. Good think I hid those masks. I also got a hand sanitizer dispenser and put it out in the garage.
I have a small business and managed to get another case and a case of paper towels a couple weeks later through a janitorial supply service only businesses had access to.
Never change liberals and hope to hell you have a “Trump supporter” to (literally) CYA in a crisis
Sounds like your H is the only one in your household with a brain, since he rides a bike. You’re just as guilty as all the other hoarders.
What does he see in you ?![]()
The ability to keep his kids alive and healthy and the household running while he goes off on his bike with his riding group 20 plus hours a week. I’d be more impressed if he used his bike to do something practical. Or perhaps consider buying an electric vehicle so we have at least one of each type.
Like you, I saw the writing on the wall in February in 2020, and starting advising my family members to stock up on toilet paper and shelf stable foods. My ex, the Trump supporter, was in total denial about it all. I had to find him toilet paper so our shared child could have toilet paper when she was over there. It was ridiculous. I shop for 3 houses, and made sure we had what we needed. I’m a liberal.
As a liberal, do you still believe this was not the fault of the CCP?

The issue is over. LOL to the fuel horders.
Speaking at Tuesday’s White House press briefing, Granholm noted that one of the pipeline’s major lines had resumed normal operations under manual control.
“I have had several conversations with the CEO of Colonial, who has indicated that by close of business tomorrow, Colonial will be in a position to make the full restart decision, but even after that decision is made, it will take a few days to ramp up operations,” Granholm said.

You sound like a real peach. Your poor husband.
My mother is as liberal as they come, and she is the one who texted me 2 days ago about making sure my gas tank was full. She is also the one who was texting me about Covid being a matter if when, not if, back in January, and stocking up on masks and sanitizing wipes. It's not a political thing. Some people just have more prepper tendencies than others.
Let's be clear. This is not prepping:
1. Filling up the gas tank after pipeline is hacked.
2. Buying extra toilet paper in a pandemic.
3. Buying masks when the pandemic starts.
That is panic shopping.
This is prepping:
1. Buying a bike because you know energy shortages happen.
2. Stocking up on food when there is no crisis because you know a crisis can happen at any time.
3. Gardening, because a crisis can happen at any time.
etc.

Yep, turn on the taps or else risk being nationalized.
+100! They should be nationalized anyway. This is too important not to be controlled by the government. We need a central authority who can ensure that fuel is delivered to people who need it, equitably and fairly. Leaving it up to the private sector is what got us this mess in the first place.
What got us into this mess was DarkSide hacking the system.
Did Colonial have to have to pay the ransom?
From what I head on the news is they turned the pipeline back on manually.
Oh lovely. So a bunch of greasy rednecks are now turning the spigots by hand. What could possibly go wrong there?!?!
So glad I have Model S.
“Greasy rednecks”? It’s truly no wonder people loathe you.
DP
DP, but totally in agreement with PP. If they loathe me, it’s because of envy. They wish they could BE me.

How is #3 on your panic shopping list “panic shopping?” Most Americans didn’t have masks on hand before covid? Stores didn’t even sell masks. Then, you couldn’t go in any store or healthcare facility or even outside without a mask? That’s not “panic shopping.”
