This is OP. Actually, it is a hard question to answer. I'm wondering what you would do if you thought the child were guilty AND what you would do if you thought the child were innocent. Would you do things differently? If so, what would you do differently.
You get him a lawyer ASAP in either situation and you follow their advice. Meanwhile, don't let him talk with anyone about what happened, including you.

You’re a parent, not a judge, detective, or psychologist.
Things that happen three years ago are not remembered reliably, there are peer influences and other experiences that may alter perception of past events for both parties involved.

This is true. It all typically starts in early childhood when a little boy is indulged.
This happens equally in all income levels, but more wealthy families have more resources to protect their boys from any consequences.

If she went to the police or filed a civil suit, I'd hire an attorney with experience pursuing libel and slander and rabidly go after her.
