The Ptolemaic dynasty (including Cleopatra) were Greek. Ptolemy was one of Alexander the Great’s generals who took power after his death.

Ancient Egypt accomplished many amazing things such as a writing system and the pyramids. The culture is fascinating and many people of African descent celebrate that.

Passover is barely a blip in the context of Egyptian history.

Sounds like the Board should have hired the nice Quaker lady that so many of families wanted to hire at the time. Glad my kids graduated out. Fantastic school back when it was a hidden gem. Not so much now.

That would make more sense if it was a specific Egyptian ruler that was famous for something. But it seems like the most famous pharaoh is the one from the exodus story so not sure which one would be a good choice to lionize.

How do you know it wasn’t a particular pharaoh? And how would you even make that clear in a costume? Maybe because of your background, but when I think of “pharaoh” I don’t think of the Passover story at all.

To everyone who is not Jewish, Passover is not what we think of when we see Ancient Egyptian things like pharaohs. People probably think of mummies, pyramids, etc.

I mean Egypt doesn’t have a good track record with dark skinned Africans or Jews. But regardless... the white girls in antebellum dresses speaks to just a level of either cluelessness or poor judgment. Not a good look.

So you think he decided against it as an overt act of anti-semitism rather than it being cluelessness combined with a liberal/nerdy interpretation of super hero and/or a leftover Halloween costume? I think as some pps pointed out many people responding aren’t familiar with the role Egyptian culture plays for many Black Americans.
