Year round school has the same number of days in school, the breaks are arranged differently. So the same number of days off. It has nothing to do with child care.

You would end up with 2 weeks off at the end of each quarter, probably 3 weeks at the Winter Break and maybe Spring Break. Summer would be 6 weeks instead of 9-10 weeks.

Essentially, you clearly do not understand the concept of year round school.

The phrase “year round” isn’t accurate. I don’t know why people insist on using it. It only confuses others.

For elementary school - yes, I favor it.

I think it would also help address the issues with working parents in middle income brackets who face the costs of summer camp. It's a burden.

Well, they do until it’s time to go to the beach. Then they’ll be screaming that the “corrupt teachers unions expect my child to be in school instead of bonding with family.”

This is exactly heat happened in this thread.

White parents: Black and brown and low income students are suffering so much learning loss and NEED to be in the buildings now! (my kids too btw)
Northam: yeah we hear you. We may do year round school to acco-
White parents: WHAT?? You can’t do that, no. What about the pool and travel?

Like do you think the low income students suffering right now are the ones also worried they have to give up pool and travel? No. The advocacy is ENTIRELY self serving for most of these people.

I’m a nurse and I would love a modified calendar because my employer only gives me one week in the summer and that really limits where we can go.

Are you funding it though?

Also, do you have any other more original lines to use? Kids bearing the burden? Lmfao so lame.

In my class 7 out of 10 kids want to overtly have pandemic last a little longer. They love DL because of how much they can half ass things and BS and cheat. Let alone be in bed in pjs while class is happening. I’ve taken some nice pictures of them for remembering in the future how well they had it.

You’re probably a troll but just in case, don’t openly admit to take pictures of kids in their beds in PJs.

Troll. HS kids in bed in their pjs don’t turn their cameras on.

If I could I’d send you the evidence.

True year round school has just as much time off, but distributed differently. Kids will still have to go to camps, but not 3 months in a row.

People should stop using the term “year round”. It’s not accurate and is confusing. When FCPS had schools on this type of schedule it was called a modified calendar.

Do we even know that this is what the Governor was referencing?

From one teacher to another, I hope to god you aren’t one of my own kids’ teachers. I have two high schoolers who are working their asses off on a laptop through having lost family friends and relatives and having not seen their friends in a year, and people like you are not worthy of their time and attention.
