OP, like you requested I’ve bookmarked this thread. Can you please provide more analysis of what you are witnessing today and what it means? This is all making me so worried I’m shaking.

It is a bit nervous-making that he has returned to DC early.

There was a pricey NYE gala planned down in Fla for tonight.

Where is the Trump Presidential library going to be?

Florida, obvs. What a joke having a library associated with this man.

We already have the perfect one!

Wow, someone put a lot of effort into that. Pretty funny.

Good grief some of you watch too much TV. I know the last four years have felt like a sitcom in many respects, but there are SOME institutions that are still holding up and I predict they will continue to do so (not without great effort, which I really respect). The idea that “the military” is onboard with a coup is based on nothing, and it’s just a provocation. Magical thinking on the part of people that wish it to be true.

Throwing up roadblocks for the next administration is what got us, unintentionally, 9/11. This isn't acceptable either.

Definitely not acceptable, and it makes me quite nervous. But not because I’m fearful of a military coup. Not going to happen.

What concerns me is the fact that Trump is headed back to D.C.now. Doesn’t the orange idiot have a New Year’s Eve celebration with 500 sycophants tonight at Mar-a-Lago? Why would Trump pass up the opportunity to be worshipped?

He is known to skip parties when he is in a bad mood. I really wouldn't make anything of it considering all the bad news he gets every day now.

Likely a factor, but he's definitely coming back to try to browbeat the GOP into supporting his effort to steal the election from Biden Jan 6. He will not succeed, but the putz will fight until the bitter end.

Yeah this makes sense. He'll call party members to the WH to try to pummel them into submission.

The officer members are made up of people who couldn’t get into good schools (sorry, West Point and Annapolis aren’t good schools, regardless of what you hear) and make it in the business/legal/medical/professional/political world. So they opted for the service, chasing a pension and a cushy job at a defense contractor or the federal govt after they “retire” at 42-44 after 20 years. The enlisted members are even worse, not able to even make it in community colleges, and looking for any way to escape their pathetic lives in one stoplight towns from red state America.

Both groups are jingoistic low brow Neanderthals, who think violence is a reasonable solution for countries to resolve their differences.

If there is indeed a coup planned, it will have the backing of the military. There may be a few in the ranks who object, but the majority will support it, knowing they’ll be part of the ruling class if it’s successful. Something they’d never otherwise be a part of on their own as a civilian.

I’ve never been as scared to be in this country as I am right now. The next few weeks will be absolutely terrifying waiting to see if something happens.

And if it happens, I can only imagine the fate that awaits me and millions like me. I fear we will all end up in mass graves. That’s what always happens when men like trump are faced with the choice of staying in power.

General Milley was Army ROTC at Princeton. Just sayin.

Milley was the class moron at Princeton. He was viewed by classmates as a dumb weirdo, and he has absolutely carried the water for Trump since his appointment - his absolute fealty to a dictator is exactly why he was selected.

Point is, people like you can't even get in, so you have no real reason to stereotype military officers as morons and even less cause to feed your own fears with rumors and innuendo.

Wrong. Former commissioned officer, but had no interest in being on welfare for a living.

Sorry the military life wasn't for you. Glad you got out. You are not an objective observer.

A typical Trump view: a subject-matter expert is not “objective” and therefore only those who are inexpert should be heard or make decisions.

Back to the point that relates to the OP’s comment and this thread. The fact is that Milley is a dumb praetorian. It’s why he was chosen for the job over Goldfein. Goldfein was regarded as being intelligent, impartial, and expert. Naturally, your Dear Leader would not want those characteristics in a CJCS. So we get Milley, because Milley is happy to show up in downtown DC wearing an ACU and ordering his troops to engage in combatant hostilities against unarmed American civilians in the nation’s Capitol city. Because Milley is a Beijing-worthy thug. Again, this is why Trump picked him over Goldfein.

Got it, you wanted Goldfein. But Milley is far from a dumb praetorian. He is pro-modernization and sailed through confirmation with one lone dissenting vote.

No-one believes PP's claims about Milley, either that he is dumb or a loyalist. He is imperfect, but did apologize for appearing in uniform with Trump at the protests. He has an excellent academic pedigree and is widely respected. How many people get through confirmation these days with a near-unanimous vote? Merkley was the only nay vote.

I was thinking this too. Why is he really coming back to DC?

Anonymous wrote:Can we stop this? Milley was not the class moron at Princeton because there is no such thing. There were people that may not have liked him so they say what they say. Einstein's classmates thought he was an idiot as well. MacArthur thought Eisenhower was an idiot and not even a good junior officer.

The record speaks for itself. You cannot get to where he has been without smarts. He has them. He is not political. People are just making that up. It is people who talk like that and who buy into nonsense like this that are pulling the country apart.

The lesson of the Trump presidency is that the institutions created by the Founders and those that followed work. Courts work. Congress works. Balance of power works. Military works. Government works. No populist on either side can change that.

Did Trump say a lot of scary stuff. Sure. But it was for not.

Yes, the institutions held, but Trump got a lot further than he should have gotten. Josh Hawley is trying to pick up where Trump left off and he is a lot smarter than Trump, so I could see him succeeding where Trump failed.
