But lots of people (Especially teachers) are saying that they do not want to go back to in person - hybrid or not.

You want the option of DL. Some of us want the option of in person.

MCPs needs to provide both. Not just DL.

Use volunteers and if necessary hire warm bodies to teach in person. Maybe some grocery store workers would jump at the chance?

It’s not a choice if anyone is forced to do it. Jack Smith said no teacher had to teach in person. He needs to stand by that.

That makes sense to me. Older kids can learn more effectively remotely than younger kids. Older kids can socialize more effectively remotely than younger kids. Older kids seem to be more at risk from the disease and are more likely to spread it than younger kids.

Believe me, I don’t think this is ideal at all, but I definitely understand the rationale of this plan under the circumstances.

Older kids can learn less ineffectively remotely than younger kids. Older kids can develop mental health problems from lack of social contact more effectively than younger kids.

I never said DL was great for older kids. In fact I said the opposite. But, it sound like you agree with me that DL is a bigger problem for younger kids than older, although it is a problem for both.

As for the mental health piece, maybe. Bigger kids can have bigger problems. But bigger kids also have a better understanding of the world and, generally, are able to use greater coping mechanisms because of their greater maturity. Plus, lots of teen interactions these days are electronic, so some of their normal social contact can be maintained. It is a lot harder for a seven year old to text or do a zoom call.

Again, I’m not saying DL is great for older kids, but it is a more viable way to actually provide something approaching an education than it is for younger kids.

According to dcmom, yes.

The plan wasn't posted before the meeting but her plan was to have ES meet in person FT, I think. The MS and HS buildings would be used so they could have social distancing for ES. At first, it sounded like she was proposing all DL for HS and maybe MS. Later, I thought she said something about MS and HS meeting once every few weeks. I could be mixing up the speakers.

The impression I got from the other board members was that many aspects of Smondrowski's plan had been considered previously. Some are already in the plan. Other board members expressed concern that the longer they take coming up with a plan the less chance there is of pulling everything together in time for fall.
