Above pp has a very good point and is right. You need to ask yourself why you are racist? Usually it has to do with being unhappy with who you are and hate towards yourself that you project to others who do not look just like you.

No she doesn't. Sorry.

Then how do you explain the economic gap between white people and black people in the US?

That's not how logic works. *YOU* are the one making the claim that the wealth gap is caused by [insert your reason], it's up to you to prove that this is indeed the cause, not for others to give you an alternative reason.

I did - read the essay. Feel free to challenge any points or data provided.

How much do people think they should get in reparations? How "black" does one need to be to get reparations? If I have a great great grandparent that was black, does that mean I get reparations even if I have a Chinese grandparent and three seemingly white other grandparents? Are we going to genetically test people?

Not slavery. Current issues that we can address, on the local, state, and federal level. But focusing on reparations ain't it.

Interesting. During Obama's presidency, wages for white people skyrocketed.

This chart is wealth, not just income.

How can the black community fix the wealth gap/economic inequality on its own?

A start would be to not do drugs, get an education and not get pregnant out of wedlock.

Nope. Those are just myths that you are spread

https://socialequity.duke.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/what-we-get-wrong.pdf

pages 5-9 - education

Moreover, on average, a black household with a college-educated head has less wealth than a white family whose head did not even obtain a high school diploma

Black parents who provide some support for their children’s higher education have two-thirds of the median net worth of white parents who provide no support for their children’s higher education.

Furthermore, white households with an unemployed head have a higher net worth than black households with a head who is working full time.

pages 51-55 - marriage

Recent research also reveals that the median single-parent white family has more than twice the wealth of the median black or Latino family with two parents. These data points show that economic benefits that are typically associated with marriage will not close the racial wealth gap (Traub et al. 2017). Having the “ideal” family type does not enable black households to substantially reduce the racial gap in wealth

Maybe they can ask Asians how they did it. Maybe a cross-race mentorship program or something.

Yeah. And maybe they can teach Asians and other recent immigrant communities to fight for their rights instead of running away to another country.

Asians did fight for their rights through hard work and education rather than by screaming, yelling, rioting, and complaining. And obviously, their way works better.

Yeah. Because without the civil rights era, they would be here in their current numbers. Go read up on the Immigration Act of 1917 and the Immigration Act of 1924.

It's embarrasing how ignorant you are.

Funny, I don't remember Asians being slaves, plus reconstruction, plus black codes, plus jim crow, plus segregation, plus denial of benefits in the new deal, plus voter suppression, plus redlining. Am I missing something?

That's not what the title of the thread says. Please replace the dialog that you wrongly deleted.

No, mobility is key to individual success. When you're stuck in a dead-end neighborhood with no jobs and no prospects, move. That's how to generate wealth, in this country and everywhere.

This. Again, it is hard work, education, no drugs, no out of wedlock pregnancies, and delayed gratification. If the black community can do these things, many of their problems can be solved. But they have to be the ones to do it.

And the ones that do it ARE successful! I know many of them.

It wasn't just slavery - it was slavery plus another 100+ years of racist policies that hurt black people and helped white people.

How can we bridge the wealth gap without some form of injection of wealth?
