I can not disclose that information sorry. but they are having a vote on it next week not shutting it down yet. I know this to be 100% accurate multiple academy directors nonmls and mls confirmed after a bunch of people in us soccer told me the same thing.

Have source(s) said why? Cost cutting(i.e. the USWNT most greedy set women I’ve ever seen and they need the money)? They don’t think it’s working?(disagree). MLS is breaking away and since USsoccer & MLS are connected they get rid of the first good idea to satisfy the owners?

Not specifically but a general idea is the new president and ceo are from us youth soccer and it is a way to help us yourh soccer. and it is the perfect time to do this and will also save a lot of money. Also the mls clubs have really complained about games vs lesser oponents.


Dumb rationale, if true. Help us youth soccer? How so?

Doesn’t help MLS either, going from “bad” competition to none. They were always able to scrimmage against one another and have broken out into their own tier.

Looks like simply another boneheaded political decision by a group not known for advancing the US in the sport for decades.

Confirming, next week Us Soccer will vote on whether to keep the development academy. everyone says that they are 90% sure that they are going to get rid of it. Many people have pressured the new president Cindy Parlow Cone to do this. Dont know the direction mls clubs are going.

I read your summaries... I’m not sure why your preference of preferring style of play over athletes. America forever has wished to get its best athletes playing soccer, and now it’s starting to happen in some parts of country. Who’s to say these U14 kids won’t keep developing? The difference is, their athleticism is nearly entirely predetermined by the genes; development is not. Style of play is important, but it’s also a bit myopic (especially when paying so much for DA), and I bet MLS academies will prefer athletes who can play than non-athletes who can play.


All things being equal, yes a super athlete with intelligence who plays well beats all. Trouble is that is a very rare combination. Is Rose Lavelle the best athlete on USWNT? Not by a long shot. Typically the biggest and fastest aren’t Rose Lavelles. They learn at an early age to rely on that advantage and it stunts their growth in other areas.

I guess we will all find out how that works when less athletic teams from Europe start beating USWNT regularly over the next 10-20 yrs, which is what this turn back the clock move, should it materialize, means.

Because they are upset that players they feel unworthy are paying to play at elite levels. Any talk of an elite league going under excites them. You can read it in many of the posts.


It excites the parents of strong players more. There are too many so called "elite" leagues. One is more then enough and I don't think too many parents care which one is it. They just want one

latest hearsay is that US Soccer will vote next week (not sure who the actual voters are) to determine the fate of DA, but highly likely DA is terminated

About 1/2 the kids playing elite soccer will no longer be playing. Should be a very stressful time. It does not matter how good your kid is if another kid comes in who is better.

These elite teams are usually driven by 2-3 kids. Maybe this will get ride of the kids with little skill but are good athletes.
