I’m voting for Cristina and maybe Terron but waiting to learn more about him. David ran and lost to the least popular board member. Doesn’t even stand a chance. Symone’s a fed and can’t even run on the Democratic ticket so don’t even waste your time. When that HATCH comes down we’ll all be scrambling to find out about another candidate. Also, the overall sentiment that she’s divisive is true. No chance she could salvage the relationship with the current board members. She’s yelled at them one too many times. The last thing we need is a board so independent that everything gets gridlocked.

Why are you voting for Christina?

For starters, I work closely with her on a commission and have watched her work these last couple years. Here’s why I personally am a fan:

1.) Only candidate (to my knowledge) with a masters in education.
2.) She’s been a teacher in the toughest of circumstances, and she gets it. She will always be mindful of how decisions impact our teachers and students.
3.) Worked to shape federal education policy and deeply understands the bureaucratic restraints we face.
4.) Already advises school boards in challenging situations across the country.
5.) I’m impressed with how she has contributed in the short time she’s been in the community and think it’s a sign of what more she will do in the near future. 6.) She not only reviews the school budget but also reviews the count’s massive budget.
7.) Offers a fresh but grounded (and informed) approach to the operation of school board work.

I feel like I'm reading one of those amazon reviews that's clearly written by the company. "At first I was skeptical, but WOW! So convenient! Functional AND attractive!"

1. Not a requirement to be qualified - an opponent has far more teaching experience
2. I would not consider Nevada the "toughest of circumstances" and nothing at all like Arlington. We need people who understand Arlington. So she had a class of 54 students. In her speech, note that she didn't harp about the class size and the challenges of teaching such a large class, especially in the subject of math. Nope. She merely pointed out that she only 48 desks; that she didn't have enough space for those students.
3. "Worked to" means little. What has she accomplished?
4. "Advises" also means little. What did she advise in what circumstances with what results? How did she evaluate the effectiveness of her guidance?
5. She's benefited from "privilege" of political connections and her "D" marker for the "progressive" Arlington democrats.
6. She's a hard worker - good!
7. We'll see.

What bureaucratic restraints do we face? What does fresh but grounded mean? These sound like slogans.

If Cristina really wants to contribute to Arlington schools, why doesn't she get a job with APS?

She taught high school math when she was straight out of college, no training other than a few weeks of TFA survival mode cheerleading. I believe her master's is in educational leadership, which is to say she doesn't know how to do but still thinks people should listen to her.

I assumed she had a new job. She doesn’t? That’s not going to be good.
