PP is correct. This has shifted the irrefutable selectivity ranking as follows:
1) UNC Chapel Hill 4.7
2) Clemson 4.43
3) UVA 4.3
4) UM College Park 4.28
5) South Carolina 4.21
6) Harvard 4.18
7) Stanford 3.95
8) Princeton 3.90

You will need exceptionally good grades to get into Duke University. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class at Duke University was 3.94 on the 4.0 scale indicating that primarily A- students are accepted and ultimately attend. The school ranks #8 in North Carolina for highest average GPA. Given the school's very highly selective admissions, acceptance at Duke extremely difficult and unlikely even with a 3.94 GPA. The school should be considered a reach even if you have a 3.94 GPA.

Also Duke has a 6% acceptance rate so this is really not something to fret over unless your child gets in. He or she is statistically much more likely to get into UVA -even in-state from NoVa.
I disagree: It now takes a higher GPA and higher test scores to get into UVA over Duke
Ha ha no
Haha Yes. The average high school GPA of Duke entering students is only a 4.06. The average GPA of entering UVA students is 4.27.

Duke is a prime destination of private high school families. You go to Duke you learn about that crew. You go to UVA and you spend your life in polite discussions about "the best state universities." Both are great.
A lot of other people go to UVA ... what a narrow view.
You need to work on your comprehension, it says "TJ families who want to save money" not all families. It also means that TJ could likely get into better fancier schools but choose the cheaper in-state alternative. So, no venom whatsoever, like someone else was suggesting.
