I get what you are saying!!! What I am telling you is that SOME schools' AAP coordinators have apparently set earlier deadlines as our school's AAP coordinator did. Our letter (saying our DC is in the pool) says she needs that materials by February 4 for kids IN THE POOL. It may not be the county's deadline, but apparently our school has set an earlier deadline. It's possible that the AAP coordinator that the poster's school did that as well (in fact, it could also be our AAP coordinator because our coordinator works at more than one school). I recommend that she call her school and ask just to be sure. If I had relied on the county's websote, I would be a week late. I assume the AAP coordinator would have to take the materials, but it doesn't seem worth it to fight the fight when I can play by her rules.

That's interesting, PP. I'm 16:28 above. Our DC is in the pool. I just checked our letter and the AAP coordinator at our school said our additional materials were due February 4 (she does not work on Friday, which is why February 4, not 5). It sounds like it could vary by school (maybe it's not supposed to but it did at our school).

I would call your school when they evenutally open and ask. It could be that the AAP coordinator wants it earlier than what appears to be the official deadline, like our coordinator did. It is inexcusable that you did not receive the letter. It would be a double slap in the face if they then expected materials early.

My second grader did score over 130 -- on both the math and verbal sections of the CoGAT. I think my ES is slow. As I mentioned, I didn't get her scores until a few weeks ago.


It's totally unacceptable that your child is in the pool and you STILL have not been notified by the school!

As a PP noted, the deadline for parent submissions of materials for the files of children IN THE SCREENING POOL is this coming Friday, Feb. 12th. The deadline for parent referrals of children NOT in the screening pool was Friday, Feb. 5th (now extended until at least Tuesday, Feb. 9th).

But if your child is in the pool, you still should have received your letter in plenty of time to allow you to gather work samples, obtain letters of recommendation, complete the optional parent questionnaire, etc. The fact that you never received a letter from the school is really disturbing to me. If it were me, I would be furious -- and I would be calling the principal to complain as soon as school reopens.

Actually, if your child is in the pool, and it sounds like she is, then you have until February 12 to submit the optional materials like the Parent Questionnaire.

Yes. The Parent Questionnaire (and any other materials you would like to submit) were due Friday (and are now due whenever they go back to school). That's horrible that they never let you know your DD was in the pool! We got ours later than a lot of people on here, but nonetheless, weeks ago. At least you only have to put together the questionnaire, not a whole referral packet.

You definitely would have received the letter by now, but you don't need to waste time calling the school at this point. The cutoff score is 130. If your child does not have a 130 in at least one subtest or as a composite score, s/he's not in the pool. (You don't receive a letter telling you your child is not in the pool; it is sent only to those in the pool.)

If you still want to refer, you do need to get going on it ASAP. Get on the FCPS website, read the parent information packet, complete the forms and have them ready to submit as soon as school reopens. As noted by a PP, the deadline for parent referrals was Friday, Feb. 5th, but (luckily for you! ) school was closed that day, so referrals will be accepted on the day school reopens. If it were me, I would get everything finished today. It's unlikely school will reopen on Monday, but I'd rather have everything in hand, just in case.

FCPS has already announced there is no school tomorrow (Monday, Feb 8) so you do indeed have yet another day to pull everything together.

Also, you can parent refer, and it doesn't matter if your daughter is in the pool or not. They would consider the parent referral just as they would consider any other student in the pool.

The parent referral form is due to the local school's Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART) the next day there is school. (It was supposed to be due February 5, but the snow and school closure changed the deadline.)

It is sent from the elementary school on FCPS letterhead (in FCPS envelope).
