The reason why there are middle class families in Rosemary Hills is because it feeds into BCC. You take that away and the neighborhood gets less middle class.

I find it so amusing that BCC is like the least overcrowded of the lower MoCo school and still the folks in the wealthier parts are plotting to slice off anything east of Rock Creek Park or north of the Beltway.

IMO, if folks want things changed, then "they" should mess with the borders on the west side and send kids from their to Whitman / WJ / Woodward and leave the east side alone. It's racially and socieconomically diverse and high performing and has sufficient capacity across the lower and middle schools for the next decade. The boundaries are long-standing at this point and everyone is used to them, and now that kids go to Silver Creek instead of Westbrook things are logistically easier.

I don't know about CCES, but keep your eyes open for a boundary study related to the Westbrook/Somerset changes coming soon.

If they're first going to build out Westbrook to 740, that will take years, and the boundary study would be 18 months before the scheduled opening.

At the meeting it seemed like the Westbrook/Somerset boundary change could go into effect fall 2020 or fall 2021. They are just building out a 3 classroom shell. But they don’t get the new CIP money until July 1 so unclear if they could do it in summer 2020 or if it would be summer 2021.

No way this could go into effect in Fall 2020. The only boundaries changing for Fall 2020 are for the schools included in the two current boundary studies, for Clarksburg/Northwest/Seneca Valley and Forest Knolls/Montgomery Knolls/Pine Crest. Boundary studies take at least six months from start to finish. New boundaries are finalized ~10 months in advance of the first day at the new school because of all the logistical changes that go with them, including revised staffing allocations, transfers and hiring, new bus routes, etc.

It sounded like they were going to make a quick decision to fill the 300 seats at Westbrook. If you think about it, they can grandfather 4th and 5th Grades into the current school and buy themselves some time to build out a few more classrooms at Westbrook before moving the whole cohort of whichever kids they move.

New CIP is out. Westbrook recommended addition scheduled to open Fall 2021. The board can authorize a boundary study at next month's meeting, to start in the spring, looking at Westbrook, Somerset and adjacent schools, with a boundary decision made in Nov. 2020. Also, Bethesda ES recommended addition scheduled to open Fall 2023.

+1 East Bethesda is like 3-4 miles from Rosemary Hills. Kensington and parts of Chevy Chase are 5 miles from Rosemary Hills. I'm not sure why this would be off the table, especially the northern part of East Bethesda near Jones Bridge Road, which is closer to North Chevy Chase ES than it is to Bethesda Elementary.

I agree. My kids go to Somerset (and probably will continue to) but I wouldn’t mind if they were switched to Westbrook if we lived in Kenwood or Friendship Heights. Very similar schools and very similar commutes. This should be an easy change as boundary alterations go.

I don't know about CCES, but keep your eyes open for a boundary study related to the Westbrook/Somerset changes coming soon.

If they're first going to build out Westbrook to 740, that will take years, and the boundary study would be 18 months before the scheduled opening.

At the meeting it seemed like the Westbrook/Somerset boundary change could go into effect fall 2020 or fall 2021. They are just building out a 3 classroom shell. But they don’t get the new CIP money until July 1 so unclear if they could do it in summer 2020 or if it would be summer 2021.

No way this could go into effect in Fall 2020. The only boundaries changing for Fall 2020 are for the schools included in the two current boundary studies, for Clarksburg/Northwest/Seneca Valley and Forest Knolls/Montgomery Knolls/Pine Crest. Boundary studies take at least six months from start to finish. New boundaries are finalized ~10 months in advance of the first day at the new school because of all the logistical changes that go with them, including revised staffing allocations, transfers and hiring, new bus routes, etc.
