The person making this claim has not said how she knows it. Like I said before, in my time there I never saw anything like this. I have a sneaking suspicion that whoever is making this claim really doesn't have any affiliation with which they are speaking on.

The truth is, Prep has approximately 120 students per grade compared to STA's and Landon's 80 per grade. I wouldn't say that "dwarfs" the other schools. Second to another PPs point, Prep has 125 boarders majority of whom do not play a high level of sport. If you subtract the boarders per class, that puts the class size to about 90 which is very similar to both STA and Landon. Either way, that difference in class size does not really have that dramatic of an effect on athletic domination. Just because a school has slightly larger numbers does not mean that those additional boys are super athletes. Plenty of boys at Prep either don't play sports or don't play sports for more than just fun. Unlike STA and Landon, there is no three season sports requirement at Prep. Freshman and Sophomores are required to play one season of sport per year and Juniors and Senior have no sports requirements. STA and Landon require all their students to play three full seasons of sports. If anything you would think this would make them stronger than Prep athletically, but interestingly it doesn't seem to.

And to the false claim that STA does not lower its standards to admit athletes, this is completely untrue. Two years ago several 9th grade athletic applicants were admitted only if they agreed to repeat 8th grade, which they did. That's called lowering your standards. Other applicants have also had STA coaches out to watch them play and determine if they are worth being admitted. Don't kid yourself, STA is trying to play the athletic game just like Prep and Landon. Their students, parents, alumni, and expensive new fields expect it. Neither of these three schools can admit students who don't stand on their own academically, they are all difficult and value academics most of all (it is false to say they don't). Weak academic students aren't admitted because they won't be able to handle the academic load while playing sports and they won't make it to graduation. I have also never heard of any of these three schools admitting someone just for one sports season, like some other schools have been rumored to do in our area. Bullis on the other hand is known to be less difficult academically and have stronger athletic recruiting, so they are unique in that respect in the IAC.

The idea that GP has up to 100 International boarding students who aren't very interested in football never seems to register with some of our posters. They either don't believe it or can't figure out why that's important.

Be that as it may, from this post, it sounds very much like St. Albans ought to be dropping down from the IAC to the MAC. This would give them an opportunity to play against schools with similar academic requirements.

Once a perennial cellar dweller, Bullis has joined Landon and Prep in emphasizing athletics, especially football, basketball and lacrosse. As a result, the level of competition in the IAC has ratcheted up a level.
