EXACTLY. That’s what was going on if you go back to the beginning of this thread. It’s not that the NY AG was like “I don’t like the NRA.” This is all the result of internal stuff.

I am one of the commentators that does not give a rats ass about what the NRA provides its members. So take what I say from that perspective.

I am thinking about what would happen if an abortion rights group was attacked by a state AG 3 months before an election because they are asserting wrongdoing on the part of the leadership. I would probably be pissed. And would rededicate myself to voting. However, in three months, I might have begun to get dribs and drabs of the organization’s wrong doing. While I wouldn’t change party affiliation or suddenly change my mind about the issue (abortion access), I might not be as staunchly behind the organization when it’s time to actually cast a vote.

Who knows though? You may we’ll be right and this wakes up a sleeping population. I guess exit polls will tell.

Nope. I'm not a member -- although I have friends who were extremely active in the past, and I'm old enough to remember when the NRA was generally well-regarded and focused on education. I think people have started using terms like "politically motivated" in very broad ways. This is a good time for people to understand just how corrupt many organizations and institutions are. At least some will keep this in mind as they vote. We really don't know how this is going to play out -- although we can all speculate: Gun nuts are gonna gun nut; people who strongly believe in gun control will continue to strongly believe in gun control. People who actually examine the data and make thoughtful decisions accordingly will continue to examine the data and make thoughtful decisions accordingly. And people who troll, mislead and try to fan the flames of ignorance will continue to do just that as well.

I'm in favor of strict gun control but also in favor of a non-corrupt NRA. Gun owners deserve an association that will work in their interests, whatever those are, and use their money for things they want, not for subsidizing the lavish lifestyle of the top executives and their friends.
