If it makes you feel better, mandatory reporting requirements are confusing and stressful for the people who have them. Taking away their discretion seems like a good idea in theory but in practice it incentivizes over reporting.

It's also not my job to figure out if a report will do more harm than good. Like I said, I'm a mandatory reporter. I can be fired (or worse) if I fail to report.

No I mean what was the actual basis for suspecting abuse.
In my neighbor case the girl said something to a camp counselor.

Yes, and all of this supposedly happened on the same day—he had a session, the incident was reported, the police went to the wrong house, the call from the wrong house came, then the police (not CPS) showed up. I don’t buy it.

As a mandated reporter I have made dozens of reports to CPS. You provide CPS with a description of the allegations, name of the alleged abuser, contact info, etc. If a school counselor made a report to CPS they would have provided your address that was on record at the school. The police would not be involved in an invesitgation and would not just "look up" your address. Additionally, CPS would have interviewed your child also. There is no way this all occurred in the same day for a slap.

Oh, for heaven's sake, Jeff doesn't (and can't) attest that someone is telling the truth about things that didn't happen on DCUM. He can say some limited things, like whether they are sockpuppeting, or where they are posting from (if relevant), or if it looks like they are posting inconsistently over time. That's all, more or less.

He can say she doesn't exhibit red flags to being a troll. He can't say she isn't a troll -- just that if she is, it isn't obvious by the means he has to assess.

He deletes if people violate the TOS. He doesn't delete just because he dislikes the content or person, and a thread stay up isn't a vouch for the OP or content in general.
