+1 And by PP's logic, those students won't be at the school in a few years (or even next year?) anyway so why should their preference override the opinion of the student body as a whole? The committee has done their work and came up with two top names. Now put it to a vote and everyone can live with the outcome.

I followed the Stuart-to-Justice name change.

When Justice was selected, there was some major carping. Some said "Justice" was too vague a concept to name a school after. Others said it would be mocked because there's a clothing store for tweens with that name. Still others claimed it would conjure up Sheriff Buford T. Justice from "Smokey and the Bandit." We're now about half-way into the new school year, and most of the kids have really embraced the new name and "Wolves" mascot.

So take the parade of horribles with a grain of salt. But if you're really convinced "Washington-Loving" isn't the right name, don't stop reaching out to the School Board members who'll make the final decision, no matter how cynical you might be about their motives or whether they'll listen to what you have to say.

Per a column in the WP today, the County is also already contorting itself to to find a name for the new MS at the Stratford/HB Woodlawn building.
