How are the fields there usually? They are grass, right?

Yup.
Never played there...don't know any more.

Wow. I didn't think they could do it, but that is an amazing job rescheduling that amount of games and getting nearly all of them to turf fields. I can only imagine how much work was involved. I previously said I'd be the first to thank Brad Roos and his team if they could pull this off, and it appears they have done so. Great job, BSC. That is an amazing job doing everything possible to keep the boys tournament going forward.

Now that you have done all the hard work making arrangements at these turf fields, can we talk about next year's tournament and replacing Polo Grounds, Muldoons and Summer Hill with all of these turf fields at other locations . . .

Considering this is a standing November event that is "Premium" these are the fields they should always be looking at.

They have nice fields. I'd take a drive to Loudoun to watch our kids' game 10 out of 10 times before driving out to Poolesville.

All U13 games at Muldoons have been rearranged. New schedule coming tonight (so our manager told us).

That is great. This weather is truly terrible. I would not be surprised if the grass fields at SoccerPlex are closed for this weekend, which would really hurt the tournament's ability to find enough fields for this weekend.

Given the importance of this event for the older age groups from a recruiting perspective, I'd imagine that the older ages will be moved to turf, with some of the younger age groups completely cancelled. They just need to make the call before people travel to DC tomorrow.

That's been my guess as well. I'd be surprised if U9 and U10 end up playing. They're scheduled at OBGC right now. Don't know how bad it is there, but I'd be shocked if it was playable.

OBGC was just fine last weekend after all that rain during the week. Yes it was muddy and had puddles on the fields but shockingly, the kids did not waste away playing in wet dirt. Some kids *gasp* even got their white jerseys muddy!

Exactly. All this hand-wringing comes from the adults, not the kids. My son has been looking forward to playing in the mud.

Go play in the mud if you want, just don't charge nearly $1000 and tell me that playing in the mud is a premium experience.

Perhaps playing table tennis would be a better option... Or better yet a game of checkers so your kid doesn't even break a sweat!

It would be hilarious if it weren't so sad!

Are you going to tell them that they should consider playing table tennis too?

yep. also not comparable. snowflake!

Said like BSC Tournament staff.

Your tournament sucks and your fields suck.

LOL. .. definitely not a BSC person in any capacity.

Anonymous wrote:Dear Coach / Manager:

With deep regret, we must advise you that all games on November 17 and 18 at the EDP CUP FALL SHOWCASE 2018 GIRLS are cancelled, effective immediately.

Despite substantial effort to get the fields prepped, the new round of rainfall starting Thursday is proving too much for the already saturated fields. As we noted previously, November has already experienced twice the normal precipitation for the month, and the current forecasts for the Hammonton, NJ area indicate that the rain that has started will exceed an inch and a half before it is done.

After the rainfall last week, and the rain on Tuesday, that amount of additional water is just too much to have drain through the weekend. While the weekend itself may wind up being pleasant and sunny, the fields themselves will remain unplayable and unsafe for competition. All the facilities we were expecting to use for this event have now individually informed us this morning that they are withdrawing their usage. EDP personnel have inspected each of the facilities today after receiving these notifications, and we cannot dispute these decisions.

We did want to get this information to you as quickly as possible so you can adjust your plans expeditiously.

With regard to hotel rooms booked with Titan Lodging, the hotels are being informed of the cancellation. Consequently, there is no need to individually cancel rooms for your respective hotels.

Thank

That will be disappointing for the kids that were going to play in that tournament, but kudos to the leadership of that tournament for communicating effectively with the teams that were participating in that tournament and making a decision prior to everyone traveling to it.

That was the primary complaint in this thread about last weekend's girls Premier Cup for the U14s and below: If the fields are not playable, then just cancel the tournament for those age groups, instead of forcing everyone to travel to it, and then make decisions to cancel some games, reduce game times to 15 minute halves so all teams can play another game on a muddy field, etc.

My kids would rather play on a muddy field than not play at all.

OMFG...those are professionals! We're talking about kids here! Get some perspective.

Exactly, kids who have to PAY to play in worse conditions.
