OP, why do you care so much? Why can't you let your child be who he is? Is this about self hate?

Interesting.... I have two teen daughters. Neither is in the popular crowd. One probably "could" be if she cared about that kind of stuff. The other is too "independent" to be in the popular crowd.

I feel like the parents of the "popular" kids have to deal with more teen crap. We all know from our own HS days that many of the kids in the cool crowd are drinking, experimenting with pot (or more), having sex etc. Meanwhile my "average" kids are focusing on grades and school, involved in the community etc. Not saying that we never have issues but they are not MAJOR issues. But I never encouraged my kids to seek out the "popular" crowd and, in fact, actively discouraged it- advising instead that they seek out "real" friends who cared about them as individuals and weren't always looking for outside affirmation.

This is the exact gist I was given by OP's post, and it really struck a nerve. Why does OP want other DC or their parents to "suffer"? How on earth does OP know that other people do not have problems? OPs attitude is horrible. OP, concentrate on your own house and your own family - don't worry so much about what other DC have and don't have.

Why are you wasting your time being jealous of other parents?
