One good thing I have seen about Arlington (from outside) is if your kid is on a lower team it will still generally be a solid, competitive team with what look like committed players. But the placement of the kids on those 2nd, 3rd, and 4th teams sometimes seems completely random.

Where does SYC train? They are pretty spread out I think.

OP here on the LMVSC/SYC/BRYC. Looking at South County and SYC now.
Stafford is not close.
SYC looks like it provides a good product for the price. South County looks like a much smaller program, but since it is 5 minutes from my house, maybe we will check it out.
It isn't so much about finding carpools for my kids, which I would totally do. It is how much they will spend in the car over the course of the year. Right now, we drive 20-25 minutes each way to practice. It is just too much time out of my kids' lives to spend in the car (plus my time).

I would agree with this. Do SYC or even South County. The commute to Woodson or LDP isn't worth it.
We did BRYC from South County for a full season and the commute to Woodson sucked. Robinson was much better but the moved us from there. We ended up leaving because for the younger boys the training was subpar. They also promote the big fast players over technical players. Out experience. Others might be different.

+1 For SYC. At that age convenience is key. SYC also costs much less than other programs and have player depth (I think 4 teams) so your child should always be challenged. With that said don't hold back from checking out other programs to see what is a good fit for you and your child.

The number of families that travel from the South County area to Woodson and Robinson for BRYC training would shock you. You'd likely be able to find a carpool so you only have to make the drive once a week.

Achilles is based at St. Johns and plays in EDP and SAM Select.
Washington Soccer Club is based in Takoma and plays in NCSL and ODSL.
Jouons is based in Columbia Heights and plays in EDP and SAM Select.
DCYFC is based in Palisades and plays in SAM Select and MSI Classic.
Depending on your exact location, Arlington and/or Bethesda also may be worth a look--really strong clubs not far from certain parts of NW DC.

Your kid’s a U10. Just do SYC, they’ll be fine as long as they put in the work on their own time. Peace of mind for yourself, and when your player is a U13-14 you can reevaluate.

Yes, you contact the DOC and they talk about what night your player can come out to join a session. At the end of the session, you talk to the coach about next steps, which is usually asking your player to come to another session.
ok My fear is having to make a decision based off of a team practice and being asked to commit on the spot at that point missing other" open" tryouts with other clubs . anyone else have this dilemma? I know BRYC is a top club but would like to pursue both burke and mclean as well
I would recommend trying the BRYC tryout if your on the fence. Really no pressure to commit and your kid gets to see their training up close for several days. If they like your kid they will let you know and it is no pressure to sign anything.

Also, where does BRYC boy U10 practice? Thinking that could be an option as well.
BRYC boys train at Woodson HS in Fairfax. At U10, pick the club that will focus on fundamentals and don't worry about perceived "competitiveness"
