I think they're saying that you can't compare the stats for "admitted" students against "enrolled" students. The stats for admitted students are generally higher than for enrolled as kids at the top of the stats have more options.

Big shocker was DD’s friend who was admitted with 4.25 but perfect ACT. He also had 1490 SAT.

I'm a UVA parent a few years in. What I have noticed change (other than the numbers of applications have surged in three years, as they have everywhere), is that the accepted ACT scores have significantly moved up; the accepted GPAs have increased; the number of AP classes have increased, in accepted applicant statistics. You can see this clearly on College Confidential and in SCHEV. We were thrilled when DC got in but we thought at the time that a 34 ACT was amazing percentage-wise. Now it's becoming an expected score. I don't think DC would get in today - only three years later. DC has had a wonderful experience there BTW so congrats to those who got in and I hope you decide to attend.

Yes, I was thinking that was low too, but my DC went to Langley when about 50 or more got in (all 4.0+) but the class was well over 500 then so it was top ten percent.

Well, in fairness, you'd expect admitted stats to be skewed even higher than the common data set ... On balance, i would expect the people who barely made it into UVA in the admissions cycle to be more likely to attend UVA, because it may well be the best school they got into. The people at the top of the admissions pool likely have more alternatives and therefore are less likely as a group to choose UVA. Obviously there are some differences because of choosing UVA because of instate tuition and other advantages.

Hard to guess from Internet-land. At least one of those were OOS, and one a white male which is not exactly a hook.



sorry, meant to say would NOT get in today. DDs GPA was only a 4.05 with one college course and a 34, upped to a 36 on retake. But he did not have the amount of AP courses this year's applicants are listing.


Pretty insane isn't it? Crazy competitive year for applicants unfortunately. What was 75th+ percentile last year, doesn't even get you in the door this year.
