Admitted is vastly different from enrolled. Common data set is enrolled.
It was still 27% admitted for 2021, 26% for 2022. and 28.9% for class of 2020, which DC is in, so I don't know what you're talking about. http://www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2016/03/university-releases-admission-decisions-for-class-of-2020

Total applications: 37,222 (36,779 last year)
Total number of VA apps: 11,338
Total number of OOS apps: 25,884
We use completed applications in our statistics.
Overall offers: 9,849
Total VA offers: 4,303 (38% offer rate)
Total OOS offers: 5,546 (21.4% offer rate)
Schools admit more students than the enrollment goal with yield in mind. Yield is how many students accept an offer of admission.
Testing/Rank (offers only)
Middle 50% SAT score: 1330-1490 (VA) 1420-1530 (OOS)
Middle 50% ACT composite: 30-34 (VA) 33-35 (OOS)
We use scores from each section in our review, but the reports on averages generate totals.
Overall offer rate for the defer group: 16.6%
Students offered spots on the waiting list: 28.6%
The waiting list forms as students opt into it via SIS and we have seen up to HALF decline putting themselves on the list. The waiting list will have ten different segments (in-state and OOS for each of the five academic areas that take first-year students).

DD is 4.55 & 34 ACT.
Niece is 4.0 (unweighted) & 31 ACT.
Big shocker was DD’s friend who was admitted with 4.25 but perfect ACT. He also had 1490 SAT.

so you're thinking many fewer got in this year?

Did you see the 4.6 GPAs and 34 ACTS rejected or waitlisted? Do you know how hard it is, statistically, to get a 34+ on the ACT. I don't have an applicant this year but I don't think DD who got in two years ago would make it in today.
Hard to guess from Internet-land. At least one of those were OOS, and one a white male which is not exactly a hook.
sorry, meant to say would NOT get in today. DDs GPA was only a 4.05 with one college course and a 34, upped to a 36 on retake. But he did not have the amount of AP courses this year's applicants are listing.
Pretty insane isn't it? Crazy competitive year for applicants unfortunately. What was 75th+ percentile last year, doesn't even get you in the door this year.

Out of State, 1550 SAT, 4.5 GPA, national and international writing awards, extremely strong everything. I've been accepted to UNC Honors, Miami U (full ride), Rutgers (almost full ride), USC Honors College (full ride), McGill (partial scholarship), U of Toronto (partial scholarship) and received a likely letter from Duke. There's really no telling with these things. I did write my common app essay about leading a protest...something tells me UVA is sick of political agitators! Not sad about UVA per say, but disappointed that I was simply rejected! I'm now 6 for 7, bummer.
Wow. Was that kid humblebragging or what?
No. That’s just called bragging.
One word: yield-protection
