Pool files are prepared first and reviewed first by local committee and central committee. And then referral files. So I think there is certainly an advantage if anything.

I don't think they expect 2nd graders to have any real awards. Keep in mind that the same referral forms are used for 3rd-6th graders applying for AAP. Upper elementary kids actually might have real awards for math, science, writing, geography, whatever competitions.

GBRS forms are the same. They don't give "better" or "more complex" forms for kids in pool with the NNAT. The biggest benefit to being in pool on NNAT is that the AART has more time to observe your child and gather samples.

I have to agree with the "decision tree" idea in terms of pool/vs. not in pool. FWIW: those of us who had high NNATs (>99%), our children were in-pool from first grade on, had earlier and more complex GBRS forms (from what I can tell from my other mom friends) and had a lot more pull outs.
