The DACA folks are a special case, and I am comfortable giving them legal, but not citizen status. They can get in line if they want to become fully legal American citizens.

As a child of a licensed electrician and the DIL of a retired roofer, while I feel sorry for people who want to come here for a better life, I've seen first hand how illegal immigration has changed the blue collar trades. We should all be glad that people still need licenses to do electrical, plumbing, nursing, etc., otherwise we'd see the same situation as we have with roofing and other general trades.

People want cheap houses and repairs, which only hurts our fellow citizens.

Houses haven't gotten cheaper, the builders don't pass along any savings from using illegal labor; they just keep the difference.

I feel a great deal of empathy for these people, whether they are illegally here or not.

I feel in some circumstances they are illegal because we do not have an adequate immigration policy in place. DACA is one such instance, but certainly not the only issue.

You want to actually help Latins: get Walmart to source from Mexico instead of china.

I love Latin people but I am tired of seeing working class Americans get the shaft. That’s why I voted for trump who has turned out to be a big phoney.

Why have you allowed the break-up of unions that have always

1) set the skills standards for hiring,
2) maintained the job pipeline for American workers through vocational training.
3) ensured occupational safety,
4) negotiated fair wages and workplace standards

??

Republicans have been setting up the current state of affairs for the American worker for nearly four decades, ever since their lord and savior Ronald Reagan showed them how in the 80s.

Now that the jig is up, it's especially important that the ripped off American worker falls for the jedi mind trick. American employers need to keep their slave labor, which means they need to keep immigration illegal and the American worker can just suck it.

That's all on Republicans.

Some posters on here still haven’t figured it out, the GOP is about making rich people money. All the cultural issues like “build the wall”are to get the necssary votes to make rich people money. Immigration both legal and illegal helps rich people make money. There will be no crackdown on employers.

A LOT of people haven’t figured it out. That’s what the GOP is counting on. And that’s what’s behind all the racism and xenophobia. They figured out how to make their weakest selling point - help for the American worker - their greatest electoral strength.

Donald Trump started his campaign with the message that the whole world, and especially their own country, is against the uneducated white American male. This is the primary recruiting tactic for ISIS. He’s been beating that drum ever since because it works so well.

If dumb white Americans ever get a clue, the Republicans are toast. But we can see that won’t happen. Instead, they’ll grab their pitchforks and tiki torches and eagerly march right off a cliff.

You shouldn't be talking about xenophobia and bigotry when you make nasty cracks about "dumb whites." Dumb blacks have voted in some pretty bad people, too, like Marion Barry (on the local forum). Am I allowed to say "dumb blacks" or is only anti-white comments allowed?

Oh. Did the dumb whites comment hurt your feelings? Your corporate overlords and the elected officials who love them certainly hope so. They need you to stay dumb and pass the dumb down to successive generations. Because if you get smart and start thinking for yourself - instead of what you're told to think - you might realize you have more power than you thought. You might start thinking you can overthrow the overlords. Please do remember that eating from the Tree of Knowledge is The Original Sin.

That's not to say that white people are dumb, just pointing out that smart is way outnumbered by dumb, and that's by design. Some smart people have come to realize that Immigration Brings Economic Benefits to Rural America.

Some smart people have realized that Strange Bedfellows Can Find Common Cause.
Some smart people have disovered that when you let go of racism and xenophobia and sexism - all contrived to keep you dumb and powerless - the Smart People Will Converge on Dying Communities and revitalize them.

And some dumb people will keep good stuff from happening. Their numbers are large and growing.

There are dumb minorities of every creed, too. But populations that have experienced longterm oppression over successive generations are just a wee bit more resilient. Unless you kill them all - and that's been tried.

I'm not in favor of open borders, but at least most of the illegal immigrants are doing the drudge work and contributing to the economy vs. lazy a$$ Americans who refuse to re-train or move to get a job.

Because illegal immigrants as individuals are not doing anything I condider immoral on a personal level. To the contrary, they take on personal risk to change their circumstances, work very hard, and help their families. They are good people. This viewpoint does not preclude recognizing that we need immigration reform.

Trump, on the other hand, is immoral and repulsive on many levdls.

NP - liberal who does not believe in illegal immigration but does think our visa system needs serious reform. There's obvious demand for immigrant labor. We should set up a national system tied to unemployment compensation and visa programs, wherein visas would be issued for immigrant labor if there is nobody unemployed and able to take that job. And the conditions of the visa would be that if that job terminates they would have a grace period of two weeks or a month to either leave the country or renew it with a new work offer which cannot be filled by US citizen labor.

Of course they don't support white nationalists. And we don't sympathize with them either.

But your sympathy of illegal aliens has led to sanctuary cities and failing public schools, even though it hurts Americans. To me, that's support.

So to you, feeling sympathy for someone is supporting that person. But voting for a person who hires white nationalists as advisors is not supporting white nationalists?

I would rather "support" an illegal immigrant who is working menial jobs to give their kids a better life than support someone who hires white nationalists. I know.. I'm so unAmerican.

How Bill Clinton Remade the Democratic Party by Abandoning Unions
An Arkansas Story

Not only did Bill Clinton refuse to support efforts to strengthen unions at a time when local companies like Walmart and Tyson Foods were becoming more aggressive in their “union avoidance” methods, but he also began to bait the labor movement to gain electoral advantage. He would ride his Arkansas strategies into the White House in 1992, transforming the Democratic Party along the way.

and remember, Hillary cut her teeth working as a corporate lawyer for Wal-Mart!!!

we know republicans do that.

but why does my party, the Democrats, favor guest workers over US citizens?

why have they abandoned US workers??

we all know why, Silicon Valley money, and for more votes from Hispanics. We need to throw them out and get a new generation of democrats that will advocate for US workers first!!!

they can start by
- mandate E-Verify so we can focus on companies and not the person just trying to survive
- end chain migration. our resources are already overtaxed, 20Trillion in debt, we cannot absorb more people for a long time
- end the diversity lottery, which benefits no one in US other than rich CEOs
- clamp down on the H1B, H2, H4, L1, F1/OPT, J1 and all the other government incentives to replace US workers with guest workers from other countries

it is really not that hard, why do the Democrats continue to abandon their core constituency??
