I cannot say I'm shocked. Twenty years ago I worked with the middle wave of Salvadoran and central American children brought over by parents fleeing the civil war. There is no intake process and while their parents work day and night they are left to the Latin kings 18th street gang Ms 13 and of course our fine public schools to be raised. Honestly, if we are going to offer sanctuary we should also offer the programming to calibrate these children to our civic norms and fight gang influence. Otherwise, they should go home and we should offer aid to these central American countries to battle gang violence and develop their own civil societies. Simply accepting them and thinking they'll integrate just because is stupid. The same goes for many poor, undereducated (my teen students were functionally illiterate) struggling populations coming to the US from places of strife.
The suspect is a 22 year old man. I assume that he is not a HS student but these days you never know.
An older person like that should be in adult education assuming he is going to school at all.
I have no idea if he's in school and it's rather beside the point, but legally, if you are a special needs student (and being ELL qualifies you as such) you are entitled to attend public school until 23.
So you are saying that the this 22 year old man (undocumented, on ICE list) could have been a HS student?
Potentially, yes. Students with disabilities can remain in the school system until 23. This ranges from down syndrome to truly speaking no English. I have no idea if he was but yes it's possible.

I agree. This was scary.
There was a brutal assault and murder of a girl at Accotink Lake in the Springfield area that absolutely was gang related although I don't know if it was MS13 or not. Bottom line is there are thugs out there targeting kids. That is frightening.
The gangbangers lived in maryland and chose springfield to commit their crime. Populated urban areas in reston, springfield, great falls, herndon etc are where they like to hang out with their buddies and bug people or pickup women. I remember when I was a teen in the 90s an asian girl got kidnapped or went away with some gangbangers for days and reported as missing. Girls need to stay away from crowded cars with men or just dont look or bother them. I avert my gaze everytime.
?????
Wondering what part of Great Falls is frequented by gangbangers? (Or is "urban"?)
Nice, suburban neighborhoods back to that lake. Are you calling downtown Springfield where Springfield plaza, the mall and some apartment buildings are "urban" (city)?
