equity is a liberal disease that has caused major cities to fail for decades

Do you see any asian countries caring about equity. No, humm wonder why their students are so much better and business are doing so well.

Forget the equity bs give the best to the elites and keep the country going

Umm.. Try India. The so called "backward" classes in India get preferential treatment especially in the south. If you are a "forward" community (5% of the population) you are screwed. That's why most of them are here.

One of the specialist doctors I go to has TJHSST on his online profile, even after all those years of medical training and work!

No, it really doesn't. You'll see in 10 years - high school just doesn't matter. No one will care if you went there. It's college and grad school and what you do there that will count.

DP. Parent of a sophomore. TJ is a bit weird in that it appears to have a very active alumni organization. I know severala adult grads, and the label sticks with you— at least in NOVA. And TJ alums donate heavily to the school, hire current students as interns and for Mentorships, hire younger alums for their first job, etc. For example, I have an alum who was a friend before DS got in. He is interested in a STEM adjacent niche. She knows a TJ alum who thinks TJ should have more offerings in that niche. He talked to DS about DS interning for him in summer 2019. A kid who is in a college DS is interested in came back for an event and offered to show DS around campus, introduce to professors, etc.

We’ll see how this plays out. But the TJ allegiance among alums has surprised me. There is a very strong alum network. Formally, with the millions of dollars raised for the new labs in the renovation. But also informally. The mantra seems to “We’ve all survived the same battle” — and so they support each other. It feels more like a small college or professional school than a high school.

So my guess is that TJ matters in an informal sort of way. TJ alums iAds impressive people who know impressive peopl, and are looking for ways to help,TJ students and connect with TJ alums. And that kids get internships, college and grad school admissions and scholarships , internships, jobs, grants, etc because a TJ alum helped in some way or connected them with someone.

You put it accurately. Parent of TJ grad who received internship while at TJ through a TJ grad.

Or several posters agreeing that “when TJ is turned into a neighborhood school” guy is off his rocker.

You don’t mess with success. TJ delivers objective success, like the highest SATs and most NMSFs and most MIT admissions and most NMSFs and most perfect AP scores of any HS in the country. And subjective feel goods, like being the first high school in the country to build a CubeSat that was launched into obit by NASA. Cube Sat II to be launched this year. And hosting Obama’s education bill signing. And having Regeneron winners, because their kids are curing cancer. And working with the State Department to set up an international conference on STEM education. Etc.

If you get to far into your little bubble, you lose sight of the big picture. TJ is a huge success story that makes FCPS and Fairfax county look very, very good. You may think it’s method for choosing kids is wrong. You might be right. But nobody wants to mess with the system that produces an average of 1500 plus on the SATs and 140 NMSFs and a Regeneron winner and 2 Presidential scholars and a satellite being launched into space, etc., etc., — and that’s just this years class.

Totally agree I'll add this is a republican point of view where you find the elites and give them the best. Just wanted to put that out there since most people on here are Democrats.
