Discovery, which is currently underenrolled, didn't solve anything?

I'd like to think that the CIP process is setting one side of Arlington against the other, but -- and I say this as a North Arlington parent -- I don't know that most North Arlington parents need to be set. People I have always liked just fine start talking about schools and I want to scream, because I haven't heard such grabby mine-mine-mine talk since my kids were in preschool. God forbid your kids might have to go to a highrise middle school. God forbid your kid might have issues getting to orchestra practice because they're doing a staged move into Stratford building so that the current Stratford students don't have to be moved twice. God forbid your kids have to attend a school with a less-than-impressive building, or have classes in trailers, or whatever. And whatever you do, don't step aside for the kids south of 50, because they already have such a sweet deal, with their subsidized meals and their Title I staffing.

And yes, if you have ever complained about that, or about "inequities in education" (by which you mean lower SES schools are getting something your high-SES school isn't, I mean you).


Did you mean to write the cip process ISN'T out to set us against each other? I think you did.

I think part of the issue here, is that we've been divided and conquered. Especially when it comes to what is happening north v. South. Many of us don't know what is going on, because we don't have children in middle or high school yet. So that's part of it. We also don't know what happening outside of our little units. The school board gets to play a little shell game with us and we don't know what's what.
The fact that many posters consider Wakefield a no go is a huge problem. We only have three high schools and it's not working for eveyone to try and avoid 1/3 of the county's available seats.
Also, looking at the survey...
How in the hell are they already looking at expanding Wakefield? HOW IN THE HELL IS THAT A THING? it was literally just rebuilt.
My kid is prek- and we're zoned Wakefield. I've got no beef with sending my kid there. I've got no beef with MONA's who want their kids in W-L or Yorktown. I do have a problem that we don't seem to realize we've all got the same problems, and we can't afford to have parts of our very small county that aren't considered acceptable options to middle class families. We don't have room for that.

I think MONA is, too. We basically need another comprehensive HS and this land is actually the right size. Build a HS there and give it a really good pool (county $) that is available to the community. I'm off to fill out the CIP survey. You should, too!

1. Displayed lack of reading comprehension in the post she was initially responding to,

I just read the entire 20-message thread on MONA and yes, I don't think English is her first language and based on some of her other posts, feel a little sorry for her. Not that racism should be tolerated but if her native language is not English, she might have been saying that since her child is already working on two languages, their family decision is that she does not need a third. Of course I can't justify the Key is bad at math comment...


There is another poster on MONA whose first language is not English, and she has made similar gaffes. I think it is sometimes just how the writing comes across, and not necessarily what they mean to say. But, I agree saying Key is only good for Spanish and not English and Math is pretty bad.

Yes- Mom #2 is off her rocker. She almost got kicked out earlier this year for posting a random rant, basically blaming the Obama administration for the road conditions in Arlington County during the snow storm. It is one mom, not anything widespread in MONA. (She would actually fit in very well on DCUM though.)


I really did enjoy the Obama is responsible for road conditions in Arlington tread.
In terms of the anti-Key rant- what got me the most is that Mom #2 wouldn't give it up. She wasn't attacked until she kept on going with comments like, you must be hispanic and your kids need a bilingual education, to bad they won't learn english, and we are not part of the hispanic culture and I wouldn't want my son exposed to that.


Yes, she kept digging herself a bigger hole. I have to say, though, the posts did provide some entertainment yesterday - and a diversion from the 732nd post about needing a pediatric dentist or an internal medicine dr!
