Well, if you did any of the research to buy your engagement ring, you should have a good sense of the size of the center stone. When you see displays at jewelry counters they're usually showing 1 carat center stones. Up until a few years ago, 1 carat was pretty standard for middle class people in their late 20s/early 30s. Just from looking at someone from a few feet away, I can tell the difference between less than a carat, about a carat, and two carats. Anything 2.5-4 starts to get difficult to assess for me. They're just really big.

Yep. We’ve known it’s a scam for a very, very long time but people still play into this. It’s like the engagement isn’t about the decision to build a life together, it’s become about the ring which I find to be highly disturbing.

I wanted an engagement ring. I got one. I stopped wearing it when diapering, bathing first child. I have inherited others just wear wedding ring.

I know two very wealthy women who have huge-ish rings. 30 years later I've learned that these rings were glass, and cheap glass. Why do they still wear them? No one guessed and they liked them. The whole diamond thing is a scam. These women could afford several actual diamond rings or whatever they want, and they do not care.
