Hell, you can overreact with regards to clocks too, for all I care. Maybe some Texas school administrator doesn't know the difference between electronics connected to a bomb, and electronics that's just... connected to not a bomb. (Hint -- in your school you have a LOT of electrical stuff connected to not bombs-- your TV, DVD players, telephones, PA system, all your computers, your A/C, etc etc etc. All of those have wires, are likely inside some kind of case (for protection) and most importantly, are NOT connected to an "explody thingy". That's why they aren't bombs.

Still, sure, you see some wires and a circuit board and get scared. OK, call the police. Call the bomb squad. These people SHOULD be able to determine if something is a bomb. And if it isn't, if it is just some electronics, OK, just let the little kid go.

The most imporant part, you know the bomb thingy that goes boom is missing. Good luck prosecuting him for making a hoax bomb unless he stood up in class and said something to the effect of "look at my bomb, it's about to detonate." (For the slower amongst you, detonate means explode.). The only reason to continue to defend the police actions is to try and portray themselves in a different light.

When I conjure up the image of a clock-the thing that kid made would never cross my mind-home made project or not. Look, I hope this is just a good kid who was misunderstood.


That's a bit of the problem right here. We have electronics in our lives, but most people never look behind the casing to see the wires and circuits they are made of. So your average person looks at wires and thinks, OMG BOMB!!!
