Yu Ying always closes for Yom Kippur. Lucky that it coincides with the Pope's visit to Brookland this year. The barriers on Taylor for the Pope's visit have been up since Friday.
Yes, but I'm sure YY would have closed anyway, even if not prescheduled. No choice really with Taylor closed part of today (YY is on Taylor and second).
In fact Taylor was closed yesterday during peak aftercare pickup time (5:30ish).

All those schools are very close to road closures. Stokes is probably the furthest from closure but rightfully closed due to streets leading to it being closed. YY is on Taylor and Harewood (both streets closed). IT/Lee is basically off Michigan & 4th (closed) but closer cross streets are Lincoln and Franklin (closed). Those schools definitely made the right call as even park and walk solution wasn't possible. I don't think there are any DCPS schools actually on the streets that are closed like the school above. Sure there are some within .5 mile like Noyes.

I still don't see anyone calling for all schools to be shut down. Some people felt their upper NW schools would be immune because kids walk to school, others reminded them that students aren't the only ones who have to reach those schools and that streets in upper NW would be shut down.
Hyperbole in all directions, but no one said all schools should be closed.

kids' commute to school (Murch) - no prob.
I met a colleague who lives in Brookland, she had no issues either, other than leaving earlier than usual to make sure to be on time
as anticipated, no reason whatsoever to close down all schools as some posters were asking. glad for once DCPS kept its head on the shoulders.
I don't recall anyone asking for that.
you have a short memory. start from the 4th poster on page 1 and go down the thread
