This is the perfect example of something I've always told my kids. We call it the CNN test. Make sure that you would be comfortable with whatever you're putting online ending up on CNN under your name and picture. My kids and I are actual nobodies -- other than our relatives and close friends there is no reason a wider audience should care what we think about anything. But we still emphasize that a post or a picture could easily get reblogged a few times, photoshopped, and then go viral as the latest thing. Any time you put something online, you should assume that it can and might go viral even if it's just from a nobody and just on their personal social media. This person was a communications director for a politician. She should have been more careful of her online activities and her subsequent comments regarding the situation. She definitely should have known better than to make the foolish choices that led to her current image problems and her resignation.

Hmmm, it's scary to me that you don't see the difference between posting a comment on a PERSONAL page and a 24hr news cycle continuous coverage on all major media outlets plus the Daily Mail about a private American citizens opinion. Her job is irrelevant, and I agree with her resignation, but that's beside the point.

It's just their resting faces. They were smiling at other times but naturally the media seized on the photos that are not flattering. On top of it, this is their sixth turkey pardoning. They do not need to be "briefed", they need to be allowed to have the reactions of normal teenagers when brought to their father's work event.

And if I were their parent I would be annoyed with their behavior -- they should have been briefed on expectations beforehand and the event was short enough that young ladies of their ages should have been able to make it through without visible signs of discontent. That would have been the expectation I held for my children at such an event.

That said, the comments, while not something I can point to as definitively inappropriate, were in my opinion unnecessary and mean-spirited. They shouldn't have been said, because an adult should have more decency than to publicly call out teens in a way that can only cause further embarrassment. Everyone comes out of this situation looking bad, including Lauter.

I understand that the girls were in public at an official event and were therefore fair game for comments arising from their behavior. They were acting as representatives of their family and thus indirectly of the youth of their country. I definitely wish they had understood this more clearly and comported themselves accordingly. From that standpoint, what else can or should they expect other than to have their actions heavily scrutinized? I acknowledge that such is the right and function of the media, and would have expected such from that source but not from an employee of a politician, whom I would have hoped would extend the President the professional courtesy of leaving his kids alone and not calling attention to them.
