I guess that means a person can hate me, vilify me and blatantly disrespect me but because does it in private I am obligated to pay him for the privilege of doing so. I am obligated to buy tickets to his games, buy his paraphenalia and continue to help him profit off his hatred of me.
Damn, aren't I a person?
you are missing the point. you might say something in private that you might later reqret, or not even mean, and if it is taped illegally and released, it can destroy your livelihood? that seems unfair. try to ignore the subject matter and focus on the privacy aspects.
Why is everyone surprised by this? People who are public figures need to be damn careful about the things they say. Look at Mitt Romney and his comments about not caring about the 43 percent. It was a dumb thing to say, someone recorded it, and it tanked his campaign. If you say something stupid, you better be prepared to face the consequences.
By the way, I'm sure he'll manage to find a way to pay the bills. This nonsense about losing his "livelihood" is just a distraction.![]()

Now the two gossiping adults spoke in private but their conversation did reach other ears and there are consequences. The adult can't hurt or sue you for hurting their feelings (your right to say what you want as long as it doesn't incite violence) but they could stop Speakin to you or stop supporting you which would be their right. That child will be told to watch what he or she says because their words can hurt others or have different consequences. Why is it different now? Not the strongest example but meh.
BIG CHILD IS WATCHING YOU!

look, if you cannot see that this sets a dangerous precedence, then I cannot help you. what you say to your husband or wife in private and in confidence might offend someone someday. you could be the best person ever, your acts do nothing but good, but still share a private thought, perhaps not even accurate, and it can burn you. I think private conversations should remain private, unless you 100% know the context. Sterling is a bad example here, since he is a slumlord ambulance chasing POS. But the worry remains.
So this development has suddenly scared the shit out of you and made you paranoid about a possible precedent being set...
Lol - c'mon seriously? I can understand how the reprehensible racist remarks of a high-profile billionaire owner of an NBA franchise could spark public outrage and lead to some frightening repercussions but who the hell are you that anyone would give two shits about what you say to your spouse in private?
+1
This fake fear about privacy invasion is laughable. No one gives a shit what you tell your husband. You're not important enough for anyone to bug your home. GMAFB.

Anonymous wrote:People let's be clear. Some of these posters care about one thing and one thing only: that someone will call them on their own hate spewing s***. They want to to be able to say anything they want without fear of any repurcussions.PERIOD. They think this Sterling case is a harbinger of bad things to come, a time when they will no longer be able to say whatever they want, no matter who it hurts. The thing they don't get is that time NEVER EXISTED. You are never free of consequences of the things you say. Every relationship, business or personal, is a game of chance that you will say something the other person does not like. If you are smart and lucky and THOUGHTFUL, then it is the very RARE occassion that you say something hurtful or offensive. So no one is taking away anyone's rights, just like you have the RIGHT to say anything you want, others have the RIGHT to respond in way they like and that may mean they stop doing business with you or having a personall relationship with you. If you fail to understand that, then you have bigger problems then a perceived lack of privacy.

If you cannot see that there is no precedence here & that what you say can have an impact on other people then I can't help you either. You trust that what you discuss with other people is private & in confidence but you cannot guarantee that so you have to be mindful of what you say & who you say it to. This isn't an issue of his right to free speech & no one is impeding it. He can say whatever he wants but a person in a position that impacts other people, in particular people he has stated he dislikes, his words will invoke reaction. He isn being banned because the NBA disagrees with him he is banned because the NBA is afraid of the financial backlash. How can you be upset about someone's reaction to the terrible things he has said? No one threatened violence, people just decided to pull their support from someone that doesn't like them. The NBA saw dollar signs and reacted swiftly to save themselves. That is all. We were taught from a young age to watch what we say & do because there are consequences. We are seeing that manifest today.
