$105 for a family of three. Husband stays home with baby. I find coupons online for everything. I use corporate discount codes for anything travel related. These are not my codes, but codes I find online. I buy clothes off ebay. I also yard sale and resell items on ebay - it works! You just gotta know what sells and what doesn't - you would be surprised. I have no problem living in the hood...so that is what I do...saving to have $100K on a house. Should be there by 2015!

-I use vinegar and baking soda to clean my hair.
-I use cloth towels since a few years now, don't buy paper towels anymore.
-Make my own dish detergent, laundry powder and all purpose cleaner.
-Don't do laundry every day and use a drying rack as often as I can.
-I menu plan for the week, would love to do it for the month!
-Make a list before shopping and use coupons and sales.
-I shop once a week.
-Walk, bike instead of diving.

I used to get advice that you should clean up a little bit each day. The problem with that is that I always felt like I had cleaning to do. So now I don't do laundry during the week and we run the dishwasher every other day vs. every day. And two things have happened- we have stopped being so wasteful (pants that aren't really dirty get hung up vs. laundry basket) and we are saving money on our electric bill. And the bonus is that I feel a LOT less stressed about having to do so much everyday.

I set my clocks forward by 3 hours so that the sun hits my house earlier in the day and my heater doesnt have to work as hard.

I go to a Hair Cuttery in a different part of town so I won't see anyone I know. Usually it is mostly moms bringing their kids in for their haircuts. I don't judge myself for going there, but I know there are plenty of others who would judge me.

I am amazed that people think Hair Cuttery is embarrassing. I bet the same people think Walmart and K-Mart are embarrassing. To me they are great places that offer great value for the money.

Thrift stores are more embarrassing. There are other haircut places that are much cheaper and more embarrassing. There are some haircut places that are for teaching or training and they cost about 70% less. These cuts can take more time and there is a higher chance of a screw up of course.

Someone back me up and show some love for Hair Cuttery.


At least for men, Hair Cuttery sucks. More expensive and a far lower quality cut than you'd get from a barber.

Thanks for the airline tip! I always complain that it's complaint crap that we can't carry water through security thereby forcing you to by high-cost water inside the terminals. I'm so dense for not thinking about this. I can usually get away with bringing filled sippy cups/water bottles for the kids, but they are starting to get too old that I'm not sure how much longer that will work. We have the flat, fillable water bottles that are perfect for this! thanks again!
