I am legitimately trying to understand what you're saying, not because I want to convert you, but because you do think differently and I find that interesting. I assumed you started the thread so people could share unusual opinions. So why are you so opposed to explaining more?

As to working moms, I'm one of them. I work to pay for private school. We live modestly. It's not materialism, it's providing for my kids.

Private school is a perfect example of materialism. Especially in this area with great publics.

To afford a decent (not swanky, just not nasty) house in a neighborhood with good public schools, I'd still need to work.

I very much agree with this, and I'm an extreme liberal on pretty much every other issue, but I oppose a bilingual US. My parents were immigrants and non-native English speakers, who adapted and learned English. Learning basic communication when you're living in a country with a different language, is not difficult at all for the vast majority of people if they actually tried.
