As I left my vehicle, I noticed an older sedan next to me with a woman sitting behind the wheel and a girl of about six in the back seat. It looked like they had everything they owned in that car. When I left the store they were gone. I have always wondered, who were they? Where were they going? Did they have a place to go? Did they need help?
I know it sounds crazy, but I have never gotten this picture out of my mind.
Wow. This may have been me and my mom in California. We were homeless and didn't have anywhere to go so we slept in the car showered at the public pool washed up in the bathrooms of fast food restaurants and cooked dinner in an electric skillet using the socket right next to our storage unit.
On second thought the little girl and woman you saw probably wasn't US but someone just like US. This was my life this was my story and for the longest time I resented my mother for subjecting me to this.
Now when I lay down at night I kiss my infant on the forehead and pray for all of the little children in the world who are just like me.
