There is no "Fathers Club" at Prep.

There's a Board of Trustees. But there is no formal or informal organization that gives any significant input to the school.

The alumni understand that this a Jesuit school. And even the significant contributors have very little influence on the way the school operates.

With the decrease in the number of Jesuits in teaching and adminstrative jobs, the lay faculty -- as a group -- has a lot of say about how things are done at Prep.

It sounds like you are the kind of person that doesn't let information get in the way of your opinions but according to the Google spreadsheet available on this site, GDS has better SAT scores than Landon/prep, better selective college acceptance rates, more presidential scholers. In fact, i couldn't find a category in which Landon/prep had better scores than GDS.

Homework driven? You must be joking. We have had two boys go through GP. They could not have received a better education. Most of their homework consists of studying, interpreting and learning. Unlike many schools which assign a lot of "busy work" they are expected to understand world issues and explain them. They are expected to be able write and speak intelligently. Is it a tough curriculum? Yes.

Regarding sports- GP does not "recruit" atheletes. They have boys from all over the world. The boys that go to Mater Dei typically want to go to GP or Gonzaga. They may or may not be athletic. The men who run Mater Dei came from those schools. They have created a similar environment. It is a positive and supporting environment. These schools are nothing like Landon. And yes they emphasize sports, the arts and community service on an ongoing basis. You would be amazed at the huge percentage of boys there who truly actively help others in need. The rivalry is a fun thing.

GP is NOT the environment you think it is at all, the kids are no more cocky than they are anywhere else in the world including public school, nor am I a wealthy individual. I was just lucky enough to be able to send my children to a wonderful place. You are completely misinformed.

Gonzaga and Prep are on the same tier. Gonzaga is bigger and many Mater Dei kids are choosing Gonzaga over Prep in the past few years, because of the lower tuition.


You need to get out there and do some research. I think you would be a little shocked how hard it is to get into Gonzaga, Maret and GDS.

You get what you pay for.

All of these schools are hard to get into. What? Are we talking about a 5% point difference between the most and least selective among this list?

I get the strong sense that the Prep and Landon detractors on this site are not alumni/parents from the other school, but rather parents/students from other places who enjoy stoking fires.

Its pretty apparent both Landon and Prep parents and boosters really can't have a civil conversation. Can't people act like grown adults on this website. We are talking about high schools.

Is there Father's club very involved in athletic issues?
