OP, I forgot to mention, do not tell anyone your name ideas. By experience, I have seen so called friends insist they were actually better suited for the name. Talk about balls. And ex "friends".

OP, I would not worry too much about what others like. You will get eaten alive with that attitude.

Frankly, it is difficult to know too many small children's popular names unless you already have a small child or small children. Or unless you happen to work in a preschool or daycare facility.

I had absolutely no idea one of our (four) names were very popular, but it doesn't mean I like the name any less. And I certainly don't care what others think.

Just go with what you like. Or you will regret it and likely pine for the name!

I just don't get why people would name their children such names... Jezebel is another one, or Saul i. e.


I love, love, love the name Delilah, but unfortunately I just can't get past the biblical connotations (and we're not particularly religious).

Not to mention, my moral majority relatives would probably report me for child abuse.




Delilah is on our short list for DD #2 and my mom has been very vocal about how much she hates it because of the biblical reference. We're not religious and I don't even know the story (though I should probably look into it. . .) so don't care that much because I think it's pretty.

I don't think there's anything particularly Jewish about Asher, at least no more than any Old Testament name--David, Aaron, Jacob, Noah, etc. Also FYI being Jewish and being Israeli are not the same thing, especially not when it comes to names. Lots of names that are popular in Israel have no religious significance at all.

Yeah, of the "rising" list I know under-4s named Alice, Clara, Adeline, Felix, Miles, Elliot just within my close friends and DS's daycare class.

I know kids with those names. For what it's worth, I know people my age (35) with these names: Wren, Eden, Louisa, Orion, Levi, Kai, Frances, Daisy and Amelia.


And, a number of those were babies born this year: Rowan, Luca, and Felix off the top of my head.

I know a 5 year-old Penelope, a 6 year-old August and a 5 year-old Scarlett, so perhaps their parents are ahead of the trend! I met a 3 year-old Beckett this summer and know 40 year-old Emmetts and Griffins.

I also laugh when people try to use words/names in other languages when they have nothing to do with that culture. Just plain silly. Not mentioning they can't even spell it!


My oldest is named "Emmett". We just loved the name (and have a pretty familiar last name). Same thoughts went into my middle child's name tho it is a little more common. My youngest has a family name - and it is very common (Margaret).

Personally, I don't get why people car what other people (like myself) decide to name their children...

I know two little boys named Sebastian - a 3 year old in MD and an 18 month old in VA.

I've known three kids named Mason - a girl who is probably 10 now, and two little boys.

Only know one Ethan and one Jack(son). Know of two elementary-aged girls named Sophia.

I feel like I've heard Evan a lot on the playgrounds. And Isa(Bella).
