They are comparing your kid against his classmates. If you are at a school with a lot of kids with high scores, then they are comparing your kid against all those high score kids. They are not looking at test scores for the HOPE but what they see in the classroom compared against the other kids in the class.

The GBRS were individual assessments based on certain traits, the HOPE is a comparison. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are told that there are only so many kids in the class who can score high so you end up with a lot of kids in the middle areas. It doesn’t mean that they are not smart and capable but that there are other kids who are ahead of them in their class. At least, that is my understanding.

Yes. The unchecked boxes are the subject areas not recommended, and therefore are the areas that you should focus on in your appeal.

No most kids who get in are not going to be Always on most measures.

Trying to decide if we should appeal. DD got a mix of Almost Always and Often on that rating page in her portfolio. Does she need to be getting overwhelmingly "Always" to get into full time AAP?

what are the % for iready and map? i have a currently 4th and 5th grader in AAP and a 1st grader. i feel like while nnat and ngat are good the iready and map are average but maybe i’m wrong


Not average. They're good scores, but yes, it's possible these scores are lower than the other kids who got in at that school. I think around 210ish is the 99% cutoff, but maybe someone else has the exact number?


It depends on when the MAP in question was taken...if it's the most recent 2nd grade MAP, then a 99th percentile score would be above a 225.

I don’t think there is a numerical score. I think it’s just the rarely, sometimes, often, etc. categories sheet that you identified.

UPDATE: Received packet. On HOPE, child scored 7 "almost always" and 4 "often" -- looks like work samples were weak spot.

My kid just took the WISC this week. There is a few on the computer sections ( you can ask for paper/pencil though), but a lot was with blocks and verbal from what the examiner and my kid told me
