Duke, UVA, Emory, UT, UNC all have better placement than Vanderbilt. So thats why Emory = Vandy.

Vandy is a nouveau riche paradox. Founded by the Vanderbilt family, but acts like Northeastern, opening campuses across the US. I would take Wake any day over Nashville and the CA communists taking over the state.

Comparing Wake and Emory is like comparing apples and oranges. Both are mid-sized, private, expensive and have great academics. Both have a lot of students from outside the Southeast. That’s where the similarity ends. My kid looked at both and preferred Emory for its location and social vibe.

Freshman have the lowest priority but must take a writing seminar and another freshman seminar that only freshman can take which they can get into without much trouble. With respect to premed requirements, my kid was never shut out, but sometimes wound up with her second choice time or professor. There has been at least one class she was waitlisted for, but she got in after talking to the professor. Since the midpoint of sophomore year, once she had built up seniority, she has gotten her first choice schedule each semester.
