That’s just too greedy. Wootton cannot lose on every single aspect. That’s too unfair

Greedy? No. We want access to Crown. Don't care whether it is Wootton or Crown. Gaithersburg residents will have lost a chance to be at Crown if Wootton comes there, Region 5 magnets are all the weak High FARMS schools other than QO (which will change soon - currently QO is also HIGH Farms). And taking away access to even the magnet at Crown is saying we wash our hands off of this region.

QO is currently 36.5% FARMS. Saying that's "HIGH" is a stretch when you consider that Kennedy is at 70.4% FARMS, Watkins Mill 64.4%, Springbrook 61%, and several more are over 50%.

Wootton families have been complaining about the state of their building for years. They now get a brand new building and are complaining? Maybe it's not about the building after all....

This. Other schools have worse buildings but they aren’t as well organized or demanding. Schools should be fixed based on priority, not how loud a PTA is. The problem is they compare their school with Whitman (for real, years ago at a BOE meeting a Wootton mom put up a slide with Wootton and Whitman side by side saying Wootton isn’t a rich school, Whitman is). Visit some other areas outside your bubble. If MCPS is deciding what makes the best sense for THE MOST students in MCPS, it’s not building another new high school on the current site of Wootton. There is nothing more financially irresponsible than that, no matter what this community says.

Any school that is really affected by boundary changes (or this case) would have been vocal in opposition. The rest of us think it is fine.

yup similar to what is happening currently - if it doesn't affect you, it's fine.

Think about the regional model. Every testimony is against it. There are like 1000 posts about this on this board, and I believe I’ve only seen less than 3 posts fully embraced the current pan-out. So what? They have a predetermined agenda and BOE are basically trump’s cabinet. Zero spine and zero interest.

Because many on the BOE desire higher office and need to toe the line.

You have absolutely no idea how college admissions work if you think a "renaming" will confuse colleges.

Personally, I thought Crown should have been Crown/Rio area and Wootton should have stayed Wootton but it almost seems like this decision a big F-U to the Wootton community from the superintendent for changing their minds once they heard his plan.

I don't see any issue with FARMS going from 14 to 19%. As long as it's around 20, it won't be having any negative effect on school.

It will have a huge affect

More importantly I don’t want my kids driving to Crown period.

Good job MCPS closing one of your top performing schools fabulous idea

Time to move on.

How many?

QO definitely getting the short end of the stick. You'll have company since MCPS is in the process of washing their hands of Wootton too.

So you’re saying Taylor screwed everyone in order to make himself and MCPS look good? Say it isn’t so!

Would make so much more sense than Kingsview since they’ll ultimately end up at Poolesville HS.

That's a good question, especially because Kingsview will be hovering between 103 and 90% capacity under these projections.

An additional question is why they took Darnestown out of Lakelands Park in the first place. If you look at the projections Lakelands Park is soon going to be at 55% capacity with 509 available seats in 2031-2032 while Ridgeview is going to be at 44% capacity that same year with just 416 students total. I wonder if me they might try to shut down Ridgeview and merge it into Lakelands Park if that's the case...

That sounds like even more reason that Darnestown ES should get zoned for Poole MS.
The sup’s current proposal has DES going from Lakelands Park MS (with kids who are ultimately zoned for QO) to Kingsview MS (with kids who are ultimately zoned for Northwest HS) to Poolesville HS (in a completely new cluster).
Sending DES to Poole MS would at least allow them to establish friendships with kids outside of their very small elementary school before they’re together with them for high school for the first time.
As the latest proposal currently stands, it’s an incredibly disjointed and disruptive trajectory for DES, one of the smallest elementary schools in the county.

This is good for Region 5, but bad for Wootton itself and region 4. If this happens, region 4 will only have 3 HSs, and Wootton loses strong stem candidates from Churchill and RM. Wootton has been sacrificed too much.

That's why I said move Magruder to Region 4 to make it 4 schools. They are close enough to Richard Montgomery and Rockville.

And how do you think QO feels - we cannot attend Poolesville now because Damascus lobbied and got changed to Region 6. We have not a single school with strong candidates in Region 5 other than QO. Region 6 has Clarksburg, Poolesville, Northwest and Damascus.

Or maybe they should move QO to Region 4 and have just Gaithersburg, Watkins Mill, Magruder and Wootton in Region 5 so region 4 can have the 4 schools you are talking about.

Yup, this could be the plan.
