eh my kid got into both and chose UMD for CS/math dual major. Got merit aid, and will get a +1 masters. Also have/had amazing internships. They said the are happy with UMD.

The weather in MI is awful. I'm sure Ann Arbor is a much better city than CP, but the weather is awful for a few months while school is in session.

Making sense? To compare attending Oklahoma to attending Michigan is absolutely ridiculous.

No. I know at least 10 kids from DC’s NoVa HS that are at UVA and didn’t get into UM last year. The overlap of applicants is high. He appearance rate for our school to UVA is higher than UM.


Michigan, being a mammoth BIG school, has a huge freshman class every year as well. UVA's admitted freshman class is about half the size. So, there is that as well.

Maybe you should tell that to my 2025 CS major CMU grad who is still looking for a job. Maybe your grad and his buddies are just simply lucky. Maybe your 2025 is smarter than mine because of UMich because he is making great money in a very, very tough market. Give me a F! break.


This is a thread to diss UM, and the pp did with a random anecdote from the web. I provided actual anecdotes about the recent UM class as a counterpoint. Not to diss students from other schools, which is why I mentioned that I know it’s a tough market. He applied to 250+ jobs and got one, so it’s probably luck and hard work. There’s also a massive alumni network, which helps.

I actually don’t think CP sucks…I think it’s that tons of kids live within 20 miles of CP and it feels like you didn’t go anywhere or experience anything different for college.

At least Charlottesville, Williamsburg and VT are at least 2 hours+ from NoVA and the vibe feels quite different.

I think CP really really sucks. Downright evil, actually.

My kid from NOVA loves UMD. They provided enough merit to make the cost comparable to the COA for UVA and WM instate. Didnt apply to VT.
