The lack of empathy on this thread is bizarre. Some of you are more worried about Bobby Kennedy having to weather two paragraphs of criticism than you are about the children who will be left without a mother, and the rest of you are trying to do this noble thing where you "just don't understand the amount of sympathy for the Kennedy family."

People don't feel sorry for her because she's a Kennedy. People feel sorry for her, as they would any woman, who was cut down in the prime of her life leaving behind two small children.

Exactly. Her essay was powerful and full of emotion. If anyone one of the DCUM posters had written the same essay, my reaction would have been the same. I can’t believe the lack of understanding and empathy expressed throughout this thread. Some posts were so vitriolic that Jeff had to go on a deletion binge. If you cannot find empathy for this woman and her family, imagine it was your sister going through this, would your response be, so what, a lot of young people die. SMH.

Indeed! People have become so cruel. Didn't everyone's mom teach them if they can't say something nice about a person ...don't say anything at all.

it's the fact that she's from a democratic family. People just can't be empathetic towards someone of a different party.

I am a mother to two young children and I was incredibly empathetic for her for the first part of the article. She is an incredible writer. However, it was such a turnoff one she took it in a hyper political direction that I wasn't able to finish it. I wish her the best.

So a woman cannot express her true feelings even in dying. Shut up and only say nice things has been the mantra. Do not speak. Do not offend. Her family member is controlling the research funding that is possibly life and death for her and others, but she should not rage and go away quietly. Seen but not heard.

No, she's free to say what she wants, but the way she went about it basically shot herself in the foot. If you want people to listen, you need to be able to reach them. She started off well. However, the latter part turned so tactless -to the point it completely overshadowed the rest of her story and shut down many readers who were previously open to listening. It's not the best way to effectuate the change she wants.

Okay, you’re responding to my post. I will ask you this question and you don’t have to answer, however I encourage you to be honest with yourself. You said you were a mother to two young children. Imagine your child had an aggressive bone disease and being treated at St Jude’s. There’s been lots of promising research out of NIH that can prolong your child’s life, but NiH needs to fulfill just one or two more widgets before your child can receive this possible life saving drug.

As a mother, citizen of the USA, you are given a platform to speak out and bring awareness of the cuts in funding that just might save your child. Are you telling us that you would not speak out and bring such awareness to the public and how it is impacting your daughter, you, and family. Would you consider that political? And if so, I guess you want the listener to disregard what you have to say, because after all, what you would have to say may be correct but it’s political.

Which website has the LI dentist rich discussion? This one?

Part of what’s so tragic is that a lot of “Kennedy curse” was just maladaptive behaviors as far as risk taking - Michael Kennedy skiing into a tree playing football. Joe Kennedy Jr paralyzing a woman in a car crash. Teddy killing one. JFK jr killing himself and his wife and SIL out of ego. Papa Joe engaging in criminality for decades and dooming his reckless golden boy to death by assasination.

But Tatiana is not guilty of any of this.

+1. Literally no one is saying “oh what a tragedy because she’s [wealthy, a Kennedy, went to an Ivy].” It’s a tragedy because she young and has young kids.

You know she’d rather be dirt poor, u educated and have her health. Health is the ultimate “privilege”.

It's a defunct website now but was infested with foreign troll accounts for years. One of their favorite things was somehow the phrase "Long Island Dentist rich" and how funny it was to see the looks on the faces of doctors and dentists when they encountered "actual real wealth"

I said, you should actually see the looks on the faces of people with half a billion dollars when they get told by doctors that all their money can't actually buy them out of their cancer, save their gravely ill pre-term infants or save their teenage children when they get into fatal wrecks in their fancy 150K cars.

That killed some threads right there. There was just no response.

She is not committing a wrong. Where is your intelligence? Where is your empathy?

Her experience regarding clinical trials is completely relevant. I truly do not understand MAHA moms. You are so shockingly selfish. Health care advancements are not the same thing as anti-intellectual people avoiding seed oils. Don’t be so afraid of others who can think.

Imagine being old enough to have children and not thinking that funding for scientific research is political.

The perspective that RFK JR is in any way qualified to lead HHS?

And he’s allowing farmers and food manufacturers to use all kinds of harmful chemicals on our food supply, including PPFAs, which have been linked to cancer. What an absolute prick.

Would you have read it if she hadn’t disclosed her own diagnosis/prognosis? Would you have read it if she weren’t a Kennedy? Were you “previously open to listening” ?

She got the information out effectively and efficiently which is the way to go when you are dying.
